Insurance rate boosted when driver gets into an accident but their name is not on your insurance?

I recently rear ended another vehicle with a car that was under my boyfriend's mom's insurance. I am not on their insurance because I have gotten into other accidents that have caused my insurance to be very expensive. I am just curious if the raise in the insurance cost will be more towards my boyfriend's mother because I am not on her insurance? Would it be the same as if it were her in the accident? Will it be less? Will it even change the cost of her insurance monthly? She has Liberty Mutual.

Not only can her rates go up, but they could choose to cancel her insurance completely over the accident. Happened to me once, when I let my then boyfriend drive my car - he was rear ended by someone (not even his fault), and my insurance cancelled my policy.

The accident can affect your rates as well.

I believe both your insurance and her insurance will go up even though she was not the one driving. The best thing to do is to check with the insurance company for additional information.
