How did the colonists win independence in a war against the might of the British Empire?

Well first of all, america recieved help from france and spain, and with the help of washington, they defeated britain. Both france and spain were in it for revenge against britain, (spain recieved some land for this, while france got nothing but revenge.)

Well, I think it is not easy to rule another people by force, especially when distance is too far and they have to let the people learn their technology.

The colonists got help from Spain to win independence from the British Empire. The Spanish colonies at the time; Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic sent in their troops to assist in the wars.
