Why are people so mad that gun laws are being tightened...

people are mad that gun laws are becoming more strict. but it makes sense because of things like Virginia tech, aurora, and newtown..it's like until THEY are effected they won't care. thousands could suffer due to guns but they don't care because its not them

Report as

It's because of the 2nd Amendment people feel like they have the right to own a gun, and just because some bad people use them for the wrong reason doesn't mean they should have to give theirs up

How many criminals follow laws?
Taking guns away with laws, leaves guns with outlaws.

But if the laws are made so its harder for people to physically get guns...it will be harder to go and kill
Report as
Not true. Guns can get imported from other places. Mostly criminals will go for imports. Leading to little change with these laws besides honest citizens having a larger hassle getting weapons.
Report as
ctr.... drugs are completely outlawed and I've seen plenty of people go to the slammer b/c they were able to get them.

@bambino - we haven't "talked" before but I have seen many of your posts. I am usually very impressed by your common sense & humanity. So this answer is a bit disappointing. I think you are much smarter than that. Consider, the same could be said of all laws - should we dispense with laws altogether because some people don't obey them.? There are valid arguments to be made about the connection between banned products and black markets. There are valid arguments to be made that the existing laws re: guns are adequate as are - they just need loopholes to be closed and to be more rigorously enforced. There are valid arguments to be made that it would be more effective to place restrictions on what kinds of weapons can be manufactured & sold than on what people can buy. But this "outlaws don't obey laws so why bother having them" argument is bogus. I hope you will rethink your position on this.

And what the hell is your opinion

Simply said- it's a change. We, as humans, don't typically like change. We've lived with "loose" laws around guns for a long time and to have it suddenly tightened up is a little...displeasing.

Have you read the Constitution and do you understand the reason of why it was added to there? If not, please do so...

First of all, the gun is an inanimate object. It does not kill. The person on the trigger is what makes the decision to kill. Secondly, maniacs who storm schools to shoot people don't bother to obey the law to get a gun, they steal one, or they already have one, probably unregistered anyway. So if you make more laws to make a gun tougher to obtain, you only punish the honest people who follow the law to get one in the first place. In my opinion, if we want to deter homocidal maniacs, we need tougher penalties for the crime. Not more laws.

Personally I feel they should be tortured to death rather than be executed by lethal injection; it doesn't seem like a good enough punishment. But that's just me.
Report as
And I mean in the case off people who get the death penalty.
Report as
Took me a second to figure that one out... But yes, agreed.
Report as
I mean lethal injections don't even cause pain other than when they stick the needle in them. If their crime was bad enough for the death penalty then they deserve worse.
Report as
Why not just have them shot sometime when they least expect it? That would seem fitting to me.
Report as
Yeah, but that's too quick a death. They need to feel the anguish of the families of those they killed.
Report as
Hollow bullets. Nothing but a copper jacket.
Report as
That's anguish, if i've ever witnessed it.
Report as
But if you hit them in the right places then their pain only lasts for a second.
Report as
No, not enough, they should be tortured for months then be eaten by sharks.
Report as
Just hang em
Report as
Again, not torturous enough.

Those tragedies were cuz of 1 or 2 people's WRONG doings and people wanna blame the GOOD LAW ABIDING GUN OWNING CITIZENS for 1 or 2 persons mistake that and we have the 2nd amendment and it feels like its being taken away I'd be mad if I owned an AR-15 and customized it to look like a Green Berets primary rifle BUT just to make it look cool and have something my friends won't everyone has something no one else has wether it's an antique, art, machinery etc. and plus why do YOU care about what people do to THEIR firearm when it was never YOURS to tell the owner he/she can do with it more guns equals less crime less guns equals more crime and that's the road America is heading.

We are a spoiled society..Common sense is out the windows..More house killings are not from bad people but from homeowners who accidental shot off their guns, or their kids got into them.... Anyway, If people would stay cool and get rid of the multi magazines and artillery type wares, the ones that kill many at one time, what is wrong with controlling those types at least. Don't have to ban all of them.. You never could..

Because it's a futile gesture, violence can't be completely eradicated. It's not fair to take guns from law abiding citizens just because an outlaw used them to murder innocent people, because then only outlaws will have guns. Background checks are fine. Taking guns away is not.

As per the constitution, the right to bear arms is not to be infringed. Some people interpret this to include all types of guns including assault weapons. I would counter that there is precedence when the government has intervened if the safety of the population is threatened. I would also argue that at the time the constitution was written, the individuals involved could have never imagined the kind of weapons that our modern technology has given us. When they used the word "arms" they used a 16th Century definition of the word.

You know why they put that in the constitution and it is the only amendment that states it cannot be infringed ? Because a armed population is the only garentee that this will remain a free country

For many people, especially in more rural areas, guns are a part of their daily lives. It is part of their way of life, and they feel it is unfair that they must change their way of life because of a
few people who misuse guns. Also, as the 2nd Amendment is the right to bear arms, many believe it is infringing on their 2nd Amendment rights. Many Americans feel like they will not be able to protect themselves and their families as well as they could. Really though, handguns kill more people than high caliber/magazine guns. It's only because school attackers have used
high caliber/magazine guns that there
is a focus on those.

The issue is being misrepresented as an effort to ban or confiscate all guns, which is nonsense. The logistics of it alone would be impossible.

Your punishing the wrong people by doing this. This is just one more way Obama is trying to take away the freedoms of the people of the United States. He won't stop untill he is in total control and has this country in a total dictatorship.
