Yes, you do. You have to go to a beauty school, complete the hours required in order to take licensing exam to be certified. Check with your state's licensing boards to find out the licensing requirements. That's what I did before looking into the marinello school of beauty santa clara.

In most states yes. You would not want to color or cut someones hair without training. Some of those chemicals used for straightening and hair dyes can make someone go blind. That is why you have to take the classes and pass a state professional exam. Then you will be a licensed cosmetologist.
You have to go to beauty school to be a certified hair dresser and this depends on the state you are in. In Kansas in order to be a certified hair dresser you must attend a licensed school and complete the state Kansas's minimum requirement training hours.
