If you have been having these for a couple of days, especially out of no where, PLEASE go see a doctor. This could be very dangerous. Anyways, here are some of my ideas. 1) Ice (ice pack)... 2) Heat (warm bath)... 3) Hydrotherapy (In the shower, turn on the hot water and focus it on your back for 2-3 minutes. Alternate with a blast of cold water on the back for 30 seconds. Repeat until pain has somewhat subsided.)... 4) Gentle stretching... 5) Elevate your legs

Some of the causes of back spasms are overstretched, trauma, dehydration, diseases such as diabetes, herniated disc and over use of a muscle especially among athletes. The pain is usually too much due to reflex tightening of a muscle at lower back. For reference go to http://www.livestrong.com/article/86721-causes-back-muscle-spasms/

What was the initial cause? If you don't know that you best see a dr. It could be something unrelated to your back. An impending heart attack can cause this.
