"Mr. Brownstone" has one of the coolest riffs ever. The lyrics for "Night train" still make me laugh, and if you've ever drank that turpentine with alcohol concoction, you know why. Hell, Appetite for Destruction is all killer, no filler, which is why it had, like, 5 number one hit singles and is still one of the best selling rock and roll records of all time. That record brought us out of New Wave, and IMNSHO is the Never Mind the Bullocks of the 80's. No way GnR were ever going to top it, though they made a valiant effort. Use Your Illusion had standout moments, but it was bloated with orchestration and Axl's swelling ego. You can't be the Beatles and the Stones at the same time, and that's what Axl was trying to do, if you ask me. Appetite was written while all five of those guys were living in abject squalor and, yes, indulging their own appetites for destruction of one form or another. Once you become a rock star, it's hard to recapture that same white heat.
