which four presidents had the greatest impact on the history of the United States of America and why?

George Washington because he broke new ground on what a presidency would be like

Abraham Lincoln because he bound a divided nation together

Richard Nixon, because of the legal precedents established by the courts on the limits of the office of president and it was under his administration Congress abdicated its Constitutional mandate governing wars with the unprecedented War Powers Act

George W. Bush with his unilateral legalization of warrantless wiretapping, Unitary Executive expansion of presidential power, empowering Iran with the invasion of Iraq, and unilateral legalization of the use of torture and extraordinary rendition, and turning over presidential decision and policy making over to the Vice President.

Obama's impact on the U.S. is still being written, with 3 and 3/4 more years to go yet. Jury's still out.

Pretty much. And the Republicans were all in favor of all the damage he did, and now they're wondering why they lost the last 2 presidential elections. They can't even buy a clue with their boatloads of moolah.

The four presidents who had the greatest impact on the history of the US are Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Harry Truman. Roosevelt is known to have completed the change to a strong and effective executive while Washington was a man, without who the US wouldn’t be. Lincoln’ emancipation proclamation and fight against slavery made him a great president of all time. Truman was a brave president who did not feel afraid to stand up for religion. Only 4? There have been so many who made such a big difference. I'll go with Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy, and Clinton

Roosevelt.....The new deal, WW2, TVA, WPA, ushered in Atomic Age. Kennedy....His brave handling of the Cuban missile crises, his Civil Rights views, Lincoln.....His Emancipation of slaves, his handling of civil war. Jefferson... His brilliance. Not in that order but those I my choices. (Actually Nixon is there somewhere his relations with China. He had a big influence on the end of cold war. He should get credit where he deserves it)

So Obama is the 4 presidents that had the greatest impact on the history of the United States? He is a good president and is doing a fine job. But nobody's presidency caused more damage than Bush. Imagine a pilot who sets the plane on a crash course and at the last minute hands the controls over to the next pilot. And then while the next pilot is trying to set the plane back on a safe course, the first pilots friends try their best to prevent the second pilot from doing his job all the while blaming the second pilot for the course the first pilot put the plan on, and the difficulty the second pilot has in fixing the problem as a direct result of the first pilots friend's sabotage and interference. Bus would be the first pilot. Obama would be the second pilot. And the republican senators and their obstructionist sabotage of our recovery would be the friends. They'd rather see America go down in a molten mass of twisted metal than allow it's recovery.
