Why can't I buy more gems on clash of clans?

there is no option for buying more gems.

It is displayed in the top right corner as a '+' and you click that green button, maybe you have ran out of iTunes credit or you are just not connecting to the server. Get out of the app and double tap your home button, hold on to an app that displays for 3 seconds and press the '-' on clash of clans to delete multitasking and try again later
