I went to this one church camp thingy (It wasn't catholic) and at the camp I went to this one class and the teacher said masturbation isn't a sin as long as you don't think about someone (all lusty and whatnot)
When I was young the Catholic church said it was a sin to eat meat on Friday. Then sometime in the late 60's they said it was not a sin any longer but they preferred you didn't eat meat on Friday. So I figured if that was the case they must just prefer I didn't pleasure myself.
Well God intended that sexual relations be only within marriage. At Hebrews 13:4 it says, "Let marriage be honorable among all, and the marriage bed be without defilement, for God will judge fornicators and adulterers." Masturbation stimulates one sexually. This is could lead to fornication or viewing pornography. Notice what it says at Colossians 3:5, "Deaden, therefore, YOUR body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." We don't want to knowingly do things that displeases God.
I'm a lifelong, Roman Catholic Christian, whose brother, Father John, is our Pastor, here at St. John Catholic Church. The Catholic Church teaches that any deliberate, sexual arousal (even by just thinking about it), and all sexual acts, that are not done as part of a valid, heterosexual (man and woman) marriage, are wrong, however young or old a person is, because they are not what God intended in the beginning; and he has never changed his mind about that. All of this comes under the sixth commandment: thou shall not commit adultery, but see also the ninth commandment: thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife. I hope this helps to clarify the Church's teaching for you. Additional questions? Please leave a comment. Frank
Yes. Masturbation is a sin. Our sexual organs are not playthings to be used for self-gratification. They are intended for sexual relations in marriage, to express and share mutual, self-donating love, and for the procreation of children. When we use our sexual power of loving and procreating within marriage according to God's purpose, we honor Him and our bodies. When we do not, we dishonor God and our bodies, something Scripture condemns. Masturbation is often called "self-abuse" precisely because the person who masturbates abuses his or her body, which is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Masturbation is a sin against nature - which was designed and given order by God. In masturbation, it is pleasure alone that becomes the end goal, not the joy in doing something truly loving.
