Quick!! I'm in a friendly argument with a friend that is tripping on what religion to be and I'm trying to win him over for Christianity.

Give me some simple Bible verses that are easy to understand

Report as

don't do that. it's rude. show him that Christianity is a good religion because....
. but don't force him. not everyone was raised like you. forcing your religion on someone is like forcing your race. religion is who you are and what you were raised with. take him to church and show him the word of god. but don't get mad if he chooses a different religion

Yeah, I know not pressure him (that's the first thing that came to my mind) but he needs some sense hah. He is like those dughtful kinds.Oh well. It didn't take God to save millions of souls in one day. I'll continue to speak with home and make him comfortable

Thank you! I was hoping someone would answer like this....

What is "dughtful"? I assume it is a typo.

Sorry but my answer requires some back and forth with you... What does he struggle with? What would you imagine comforts him? What is his worst fear?

Helpful (1) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (4)
Report as
Yeah, you want to get a grip on his worst fear, wouldn't you? After all the perpetuation of faith is more or less dependent upon fear.
Report as
Exactly what an abusive control freak always wants to know.
Report as
No. Jesus has come for many things and and 1 is to forgive and another is to wipe away every fear. Usually its best to have more personal outlook on this case. I know Jesus, the asker of the question doesn't know what to do but knows there friend. I'm trying to get a feel of what we're working with.

How can you just decide what religion to be? If he is lucky enough to have the freedom to choose, it should come from his heart and mind, not being convinced.

You don't "win" someone over to Christianity. First of all it's not a competition. Secondly your beliefs are not to be forced upon others. Feel free to tell,(not 'preach'), your beliefs to your friends, but trying to tell them you're right and they are wrong will not end well.

Well said, Dan. That advise is just as true for theists as it is for us atheists.

@Anthony: Following the Golden Rule never fails -- even for us heathen atheists. If someone sees you modeling good behavior, they will want to know what makes you such a stand-out individual. That is your in. It works just as well for atheists to show people we are not the people many say we are.

But if you think in terms of following the Golden Rule -- treating others the way you would want to be treated -- how would you feel if he was trying to make you an atheist and turn you away from faith? Most likely he is a non-believer based on reason. Might he see you as trying to turn him away from reason? So forget scriptures, which he's probably going to reject anyway if he doesn't accept the divinity of the Bible. SHOW him you have something that he wants. That is your best hope.

Seek all of them out together . This is a good reason why you should study other religions so you will be equipped to answer why. It's not about religion it's about following Christ let him show where you should go. Seek him first and him alone he will guide you Giving Jesus just a fair and honest open minded chance to come in to your life is the only place to start every thing else is religion

The number one cause of atheism is reading the bible. For every virtuous bible verse there are two that are horrible and atrocious. Also, by Christian logic, I can prove that Hogwarts school of magic exists because it says so in Harry Potter.

You can only lay out what you believe, imposing your views is not appropriate, lighten up. It's ultimately up to each person what they believe.

Lest not forget that there is a thing called "freedom of religion" which also extends to the elaborated form called "freedom FROM religion".

However, quoting bible is not going to help you either. In terms of lack of intellectual rigor there couldn't have been anything worse than the bible. The primary cause for so many Christians to turn to atheism is the fact that they know the bible better. I would even insist that read your bible and you will lose your faith.

Here are some identifying marks of what one should look for when deciding with whom and how to worship God.

1) True Christians have real love among themselves. (John 13:34, 35)

2) Another mark of true religion is that its members have a deep respect for the Bible. They accept it as the Word of God and believe what it says. (John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17)

3) True Christians must preach about God’s Kingdom. (Matthew 24:14; Matthew 28:19,20)

4) Jesus’ disciples must be no part of this wicked world. (John 17:16) They do not get involved in the world’s political affairs and social controversies.

5) The true religion must also honor God’s name. (Matthew 6:9) Jesus made God’s name, Jehovah, known to others. True Christians must do the same. (John 17:6, 26; Romans 10:13, 14)

I hope these scriptures help your friend!

If you need more information I suggest the article, "How Can You Find the True Religion?" found at http://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/require/how-can-you-find-the-true-religion/

The key here is to stay in the Word. It is not you or what you say that will reach your friend it's the conviction of the Holy Spirit though the Word Of God. I suggest you use what they call the" Roman Road to Salvation" It consist of 5 scriptures taken out of the Book of Romans explaining to the person. That they are a sinner in need of a Savior and that they can have assurance of Salvation. Rom. 3:23, 5:8, 6:23, 10:9, and 10:13

Assuming her friend does not accept the divinity of the Bible, how can he be expected to be swayed by Bible verses? The Bible will certainly say he should believe or be damned for eternity, but by what authority?

Talk to him: find out what his concerns about religions ARE. You wont know all the answers! Let him know why you believe what you believe! ask God for guidance! stay in the Word.
Let him know that you two + God can search together-find someone who really knows scripture!
Ask-seek-find!

Your friend's becoming Christian will happen if, when, where, and how, God the Son, Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, wants it to happen, but you can be a wonderful influence on your friend, mostly by your good example, and also, by helping him or her learn about Christianity!
Our Lord Jesus Christ, after his terrible suffering, and death, on the wood of the Cross, to redeem (buy us back from the Devil), and to save us from having miserable lives on this earth, and from never being able to go to Heaven, when we die, and after his resurrection (rising, or coming back) from the dead, continued appearing to his 11 Apostles (the 12th, Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus, didn't think Jesus would ever forgive him, so had killed himself), during another 40 days, at the end of which, he gave them, and through them every Christian, the command and commission to: "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe (do) all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28: 19-20). So you are right to try to bring your friend into the Christian religion.

Christianity is the right ballpark, but the infield of that ballpark is the Roman Catholic Christian Church, who is the only one, who can trace her history all the way bact, through her 265, or so, legitimate Popes, to St. Peter the Apostle, the first Pope, who was appointed by Jesus Christ himself, who is God, at Matthew 16: 13-19, especially, verse 18.
I hope you find this helpful. Additional questions? Please ask them in comments.
I'm praying that God will give you, and all those you care about, all the best this poor, old world has to offer, and Heaven in the next!

Peter was not the first Pope.Peter was never in Rome. It was Constantine. Peter was also married in which is not allowed in order to be a Pope. And as far as the scripture you qouted you have misinterrupted that scripture. For what that sripture says is ths. " He told Peter "18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it".

This Rock is referring to Himself. Jesus is the Rock of our Salvation. And the church is not a building it's people.

If your friend does not accept the divinity of the Bible, Bible verses will be meaningless to him.

You are to plant the seed of salvation, then turn them over to the Holy Ghost to work on their heart to bring them to Jesus. Only the blood of Jesus can save anyone from sin, we can not save anyone. Pray for your friends that the Holy Ghost will work in them.
Heavenly Father as I come before the throne of grace I praise you and thank you for all you have done for me. I pray for an out pouring of the Holy Ghost to open the eyes and hearts of my friends to accept your free gift of salvation that we may work together to spread your gospel to others. I humbly pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Usually begin a discussion trying to understand their spiritual background and their faith journey, not "throwing verses" at people. Jesus used a lot of parables, trying to explain spiritual truths by concrete world examples. There are many ways to explain it, but I am of the belief that God will give you the words you need in the hour you need them, if you have been reading His word and listening in church, and if you are sensitive enough not to bruise the person you are speaking to.

You can't win someone over to be a Christian!! Ask any Christian and they will tell you it is a gift given by God. It is a personal decision. It is a personal relationship formed between you and God. You have to bring Jesus into your heart and accept the Blood of the Lamb, Jesus' Sacrifice. Only then can you begin the journey that is Christianity.

It is one thing to show someone Christianity and another to prod. The first steps has to be theirs. You have to want to for the right reason. Not coz someone told you. I'm not making sense, am I? It's difficult to express myself on this internet. I like to be animated.
