Was mentioning this in my employment questioner a bad idea?

I recently applied to be a detention officer I passed my written test and made it to the polygraph which is next. Before they released us from testing they gave us a questioner and they specifically said be HONEST so I wasn't I stated in there that when I was 12 I stole a candy bar a value of less than 3 dollars. By me stating that in that questioner will ruin my chances? I want the the hob really bad so I figured why lie about I am now 24 so I could really use some advice I am nervous I will not get the job because of that. If it helps I live in Texas.

You were honest, the questioner specifically said "Be honest". This looks A LOT better than lying and being caught. However, they may hold it against you. If someone else has the same experience and education as you, that also applied for the job, but hasn't ever stolen anything, they are more than likely going to get the job than you are.
Just make sure to check in with the employer, so they know you really want the job! Good luck.

Thank you for answering my question. Last I heard that they are recruiting a lot of new detention officer due to the high turn over rate out of the 11 that tested with me only 5 passed. What are your thoughts on this?

You were one of the 5? Sounds like good news to me! When did you have your interview and such? If it's been a couple days, I would wake up bright and early in the morning and give them a call. Ask to speak to the person who's in charge of hiring. Start off by saying "Good morning *insert name here*, my name is *insert name here* and I'm calling to check on my application. I recently had my polygraph test. I just wanted to let you know that I'm really interested in the job". And go from there. Call them back every week after that. You have to be persistent and let them know you want it!

Yes I did pass. I have yet to take my polygraph test that is why I have been nervous because I mentioned about the candy bar on the questioner after polygraph I heard is only a matter of time after that.

I don't think stealing a candy bar at age 12 will keep you from getting this job. The fact that you were so truthful might help your chances. An honest person makes for an honest employee. Good Luck on your career!

Thanks for answering my question. I was really worried that by stating that in the questioner they would take as me being a thief which is not the case at all. I heard that they are recruiting a lot of individuals for this position I just wanted to be honest liked they asked me too. What do you think?

I think you did the right thing.

No that won't be a problem because everyone knows that we have all broken the law at one time or another and if you say you haven't then you either forgot wasn't aware or are lieing

Understood. I was just a little scared. I didn't want them to think that I was a thief. I know I messed up because my parents keep telling me about to this day. Thanks for answering my question.

Sure but think of another job because if you don't go along with the program of even some questionable behavior you will be in a dangerous position . There are some law enforcement practices that not honest or legal so lies become common place so you need to decide, allow a person to be wronged to save a fellow officer from trouble or allow truth to be known. I tell you this because its true not just an opinion. Iv known cops who have quit being cops because of the corruption three x cops from 3 different areas of the country
