How would you Describe heaven and how to get there?

Report as

Heaven is so wonderful, people are dying to get there!
The rules are:
1. Heaven is God's house.
2. Your are invited but you have to know the homeowner. Strangers are turned away by the bouncer.
3. Looking for the entry gate? Seek and ye shall find.
4. Worried you might not be let in? When I went to my friends house, he invited me in. If I went to his neighbors house (unknown to me), and asked to come in, I would have had the door slammed in my face. So: secret is, be a friend of the homeowner.

Cute, but that's not what Halacha says.

On the contrary, when properly observed, halakhah increases the spirituality in a person's life, because it turns the most trivial, mundane acts, such as eating and getting dressed, into acts of religious significance. ...[People may] ask how to increase their spirituality or the influence of their religion in their lives, the only answer I can think of is: observe more halakhah. Keep kosher or light Shabbat candles, pray after meals or once or twice a day. When you do these things, you are constantly reminded of your relationship with the Divine, and it becomes an integral part of your entire existence."
From Judaism 101.
As you can see, Halakh is intended to remind us of our relationship to God. It has no purpose apart from our relationship with God. Keeping halakh is that relationship, for the Jew; for the gentile it is likely not, as they are not required to keep the laws; for gentiles, prayer and worship are as important to the relationship with God as keeping laws, if not moreso.

Heaven is God's home without dispute. So telling me the prior relationship with God is NOT the basis for "in or out of heaven" is, well, perhaps inventive. It's certainly not Judaism as I was taught it. http://www.jewfaq.org/m/halakhah.htm
Report as
star and I have a better idea of the place of keeping laws now.
Report as
I believe there is no purpose to the Halacha except for keeping it because that is what God commanded us. I think that emphasizing a "relationship" with God is Christian influence, for Jews don't need a relationship. If they "just" keep all 613 Commandments, they are fine, with or without a "relationship". For Christians however a "relationship" is very important, but I disagree about its importance for Jews. As you can read in my answer to the original question, I believe Halacha gives precise and accurate answers to the two questions raised. Of course I was a bit selective in the first part to make it juicy, but it is indeed written in the Talmud. I don't think what you said is wrong per se, that's why I said it was cute, but I don't know if any Rabbinic or Halachic text that says that explicitly.
Report as
Utter nonsense.
Report as
We are in violent agreement on keeping of the Halakh. However, you seem to imply that the keeping of the law is divorced from God; if I'm wrong, I apologize. However, my Rabbi and many rabbis state that the keeping of the Halakh only makes sense if there is a relationship with God. It's not a "Christian" concept, it's Jewish, and the Jews donated it to Christians. Read my link.
Now, a Jew can be in the relationship yet not be aware of it. He keeps the Halakh because that is what one does as a Jew. But he will not pray, he will not worship, he will not keep devotion unless he is aware (or observant) of the relationship at least on some level, as the Halakh only is observed by observant Jews. So we are not as much disagreeing, as violently agreeing.

Heaven is a perfect relationship with God. You don't get to heaven :) God brings you there after you accept in your heart that Jesus is lord, Confess with your mouth that he is your savior, and believe that he died and rose again in 3 days bringing the good news of great joy.

Basically be saved :)

Heaven (or Hell, or whatever "afterlife") is merely the code name for another simulation software ... you get there if The Programmer/Player chooses to transfer your character.

I just take the theory to the religious level.

If we are a simulation ... then "god" is either a programmer or player ... "afterlife" is merely another simulation ... "miracles" are merely manipulation of code (equivalent to using "cheat codes" in our computer games) ... our universe is expanding because of enhancements to the computer running the simulation

What is the purpose of the simulation? We don't know.
Who is running the simulation? We don't know.

But maybe if we get to the level of technology capable of running such a simulation ourselves, we will know those answers.

Heaven is a place in fantasy and fiction. If it were real, how would you think anyone would know what it is like? If it were to exist, the only ones that would have seen it are those that have died and I have yet to hear back from one of them. Any description someone gives you here is purely their idea or the idea of someone else, given without any true personal knowledge or evidence.

The Babylonian Talmud describes the World to Come, or Olam Ha'Ba, by using this world things that are most like Olam Ha'Ba as follows ( Berachot 57(2)): the Sabbath (implying the tranquility and leisure that Jews have on Shabbat), the rising sun (beautiful and filled with light), and sex (highest physical pleasure). I should comment that some Sages interpreted the word the Talmud uses ("tashmish") to mean going to the bathroom for a number 2, instead of sex. So according to those Sages Heaven is like pooping. Personally sex makes more sense to me. So now that we have established what Heaven is like (peaceful, well lit, and lots of great sex), how do you get there? There are two tracks that would lead you there, a track for Gentiles and a track for Jews. Gentiles who obey the Noahide laws have a part in Olam Ha'ba. Those are basic moral laws that God requires of all of humanity. As for Jews, the rule is that all Jews have a part in Olam Ha'ba (Mishna Sanhedrin 10(1)), but there are exceptions. There is a (rather short) list of specific sins, that if a Jew commits he or she loses their part in Olam Ha'ba. Maimonides in Laws of Repentance (Hilchot Teshuva) 3(14) lists them. They include the Minim, Epicureans, those who deny the Torah (and in 3(17) Maimonides explains that those include the Christians - presumably he meant the Christian Jews of the 1st and 2nd centuries), those who deny resurrection of the dead when Messiah comes, those who say Messiah will not come, those who make others commit sin, those who drove themselves apart from society, murderers, those who commit libel, those who undo their circumcision, and those who create a public panic not for His sake. Unless a Jew does any of these, he or she will have a part in Olam Ha'ba. It's clear from the list that you will not find Jesus there even if you make it to Olam Ha'ba.

Heaven is a long, sandy beach with beautiful aquamarine water that is so clean you could gargle it. We don't call it Heaven though. In Australia it's called Mollymook Beach and in an hour or so I'm going to be there with my angel.

Check this out and tell me it's not Heaven: http://www.beachandbay.com.au/realestateblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Mollymook-Beach.jpg

Jesus is the Way to heaven.
No other way. Come to Him, invite Him in your life. and REPENT!
( Change) If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation ( he's born again). As far as describing heaven, there are some descriptions in Revelation, but even Jesus Himself said eye has not seen , nor ear heard, nor can no human mind ever conceive what God has prepared for those who love Him. By the way, Jesus was God in the flesh, the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity. Father, Son, Holy Spirit, 3 persons in ONE God.
Hope this helps.
