Is the universe expanding like an inflating bubble or like an inflating disc like a shock wave from the initial big BANG?

And what about those galaxies moving towards us like Andromeda?

Report as

Not necessarily a big explosion or "bang." But andromeda is very far away and earth will be destroyed or uninhabitable long before that.

Nawwww! We are expanding in this universe; basically moving far away from each other :) Like ripples after a drop of water hits a pool of water ^_^

But how is it that Andromeda is moving TOWARD our galaxy if their all supposed to be moving away from each other? Obviously the universe isn't expanding in that region.

It's like rolling a bunch of marbles down a hill, they are all moving away from you but they can still bump each other. Andromeda and Milky Way are being pulled toward each other by gravity as they move away from us. They will combine to become 1 galaxy and continue to expand away from the rest.

There will, and have been more collisions with passing of time. There's not enough gravity to hold back the expansion, but in the process the gravity of the galaxies will continue to attract them.
