What was Stonehenge used for?

I need a theory behind what Stonehenge was used for, it's for a school project and i'm stumped. Please help

Report as

Some believe it was used for sacrifices, and others say that it was for non-sacrificial rituals involving star counting and/or the predicting of various astronomical phenomena such as eclipses. More recent ideas are moving away from the idea that Stonehenge had complex 'astronomical' functions. However it was certainly set up in respect of the Midwinter Solstice.

There is no shortage of theories as to what Stonehenge was used for, but nobody knows for sure. Most people believe it was a burial site, while others believe it was built for religious purposes. What everyone agrees upon is that it is a magnificent piece of work. Read on from www.londontoolkit.com/whattodo/stonehenge_mystery.htm.

it was used by the druids a long time ago as a way of telling time like a calender, it is directly related to the solstices and much of it is missing because people used the blocks as part of their roads because they were stupid its a shame. that is human nature.

Fairchild's right, but the Druids didn't build it. It was built and used long before the time of the Druids.

Some people say it was used as an astronomical calendar, but there isn't much evidence for that yet. (Nothing concrete anyway)

We DO know it was used for ceremonies and rituals for a VERY long time. There is evidence for structures being there long before the stones were placed.

Stonehenge was a place of worship for the pagans living there. They dragged stones to it for miles, with primitive technology, so it is really quite amazing. Historians also believe that there was a similar structure made of wood not far from Stonehenge.
