When people call someone an, " Emo," they're labeling them as a stereotype. The stereotype of Emo, is, " self-harm." Emo means, " Emotion." Nothing else, but a lot of people follow the stereotype. Emo also means the kind of Emo music; like Screamo. Emo is also a style. The dude who is in your profile picture, is Emo, because he has the skinny-jeans on, and the edgy-looking haircut. When someone calls you an Emo, just ignore them and continue to do whatever you are doing. When you self-harm, you are not considered as an Emo. You are just considered as a normal person who needs some guidance, but when you do label yourself as an Emo during your self-harm stage, then that isn't going to look good for you.
I used to self-harm, and I got labeled as an Emo, but I was just a normal person that needed guidance. I eventually forced myself to stop self-harming. I am Emo though (the style).
Emo is Gothic though. Emo people are not necessarily emotional. A lot of them are happy-go-lucky. It's all just a label though, but the best thing to do, is to follow it. Emo has the same look as Goth though.
