If a baby dies in birth or before it has time to develop the ability to understand things, will it go to hell?

Like if a baby were to die, 2 years or younger, before he or she has time to develop some kind of faith in God, will he or she go to hell? If you have a specific verse to justify your answer, please use it.

Report as

No. It is clear that all who have not reached the age of understanding, will go to heaven. This includes mentally compromised, and very young.

No! You only will go to hell when you reach the age of accountability if you reject Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Babies are innocent and know nothing.

Why do you ask?
Report as
I was just wondering. That would be kinda unfair if God sent them to Hell, just because they were too young.

As a minister I can truthfully tell you NO. The child is not at the age of accountability. Which is knowing right from wrong.

Perchance the baby is a "little hitler" so to speak, and since God knows that child's heart, I wonder then if the baby would go to hell?
Report as
Hitler was the person he was because he chose to be that way. He made the wrong choices.
Report as
yeah, Hitler wasn't born any more "evil" than me. he even considered becoming a priest, as a child. He chose to become who he became, as do the rest of us.
Report as
what I'm saying though is that God knows the end from the beginning, He would have known Hitler would have made the wrong choices
Report as
He also knew that Adam and Eve would sin, so why did he even create anything in the first place? Because God gave us free will.
Report as
true but God still gives us a freewill. He lets us choose right from wrong. It all boils down to faith!!
Report as
of course, I'm not arguing, just asking:)

Think of God of being at least as good as the best person you know. Would the best person you know send such a child to a place like Hell?

No, the Bible says that God is just. I'm sure that all kids that die before they are of age to understand such things go to heaven.

The age of accountability is 8 years old. If they are under that age they will receive exaltation. That is nice to know if you have lost a child.

As a minister, I do not know everything about God's word, but nowhere does it give the age of accountability as being 8 years old. If i'm wrong please show me where it is.
Report as
The age of accountability varies according to the maturity of the person.

We have a book of scripture which is called The Doctrine and Covenants. It is revelation given to our prophets. I know it sounds off the wall to those that haven't heard of it. It explains so much about "the mysteries of God" because it is from Him. Thank you for asking. I hope this helps.
Report as
If it's not in God's word I dont believe it!
Report as
It is straight from God to our prophet. How else does one know God's will in this day and age ? It's true doctrine
Report as
This doctrine of the covenants is not in my King James version of the BIBLE. Show me a book name i.e....Jeremiah, Isaiah ect. plus a chapter and verse. Would love to read this in my Bible!
Report as
It goes hand in hand with the Bible. It's another witness of Christ. It expounds on what is taught in the bible
Report as
@rev4ua: Throughout the Bible The Lord has always provided prophets through which he has provided His word. He has indicated that He is the same God yesterday, today and forever, so why should He not continue the practice of speaking through prophets?
Report as
@Winn Sam31: I agree that God does speak through prophets today. My point is I as a christian have never read in God's word that the age of accountability is 8. I as a minister will be the first to say that I do not know all there is about God's word and never will. I do know that the Bible tells me that when a person is mature enough to know right from wrong (which is sin) then they are accountable.

Babies are in the hands of the Creator and because of this we can have PEACE. We know that, like all people, children belong to God because he has created them and loves them. And God has shown us again and again that he will do what is right (Gen 18:25). He is a loving God, a good God, a God who is always fair. And we know that Jesus' death is sufficient. And so we leave our unborn babies in the hands of a gracious and loving God who will do right. And while it may hurt, there is peace to be found, and trusting them to the goodness of God.

I dont believe so. I believe anyone who dies before the age of understanding will go to hell. This age can be different for each person but God knows and certainly an infant pre or post birth is bound for heaven.

Babies, small children, and people with intellectual disabilities are not held accountable for sins. Even the babies that are aborted or miscarried are in Heaven. In Mark 10:14-15, it says to let the little children come to Christ for such is the Kingdom of Heaven and we all have to receive Heaven as a child. Children are precious to God. I like to think of the babies being passed around in Heaven and the little children playing.

Some people believe that the child's fate is determined by their parents religion/faith/beliefs. But I believe that God saves all children that have not yet been able to conclude their own beliefs, including unborn babies.

Acts 24:15 says, "I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." This resurrection of the unrighteous means that those who did not get a chance to know God and thus did not serve Him, will get the chance to do so. This includes babies.

Hope I helped!

You're absolutely right. Babies are the most innocent and precious form of life. God loves them all and receives them with open, loving arms. Their little spirits were never contaminated with the evil that this world offers.

Mormon doctrine teaches that little children and others who are not accountable are automatically saved through the atonement of Christ. These individuals will be welcomed by a just and loving God.
