How can I tell if an online company is fake or not?

if its on glassdoor does that mean that it's real?

If it's too good to be true(Selling plasma screen TV's for $30 is too far fake), then it probably isn't true.

What I do is simply google them, if I get a lot of "Scams" in the list of sites, then I assume they are.

Experience makes u more perfect, keep trying, you will get real one. BTW the one which are realistic practical prices is not fake, but the one which sells you $1000 product at $100-200 means, you can make out it is nothing but fake.

too many third party ads, or if the website appears too colorful. Plus if the deals they are offering are something that you have found on no other websites, you are safe to be suspicious.

All safe sites will have the BBB logo, also check the upper bar for a secure bar which will usually have a green color on the http:// www. etc... ( ex: gilt.com zulily.com.) I myself prefer Norton safe web search to google as they are there to collect your information and not really big on directing people to safer sites. For google it is all about collecting info for their own $$$ profits. Oops! Forgot to say the upper bar turns green at check out.

you simply ask the person that made the website if it is real or not

It can be tough to confirm if an online company is real. Here are things I do:

Do a "whois" search on the domain name to see who owns it and where they're located. try http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp

Look at he page HTML source code. Usually you can right-click a page and select View Source from the pop-up menu. It should look neat, orderly, properly indented, and have comments.

Do a web search on the word SCAM and the domain name or the company name.

Go to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office web site USPTO.gov and search on the web site or business name. Ando search the Federal Trade Commission web site at FTC.gov.

And like other people have said, use common sense. If the site looks sloppy or ad-heavy or too good to be true. look elsewhere.

Generally a legitimate company will have its company information posted like: Phone number, address, owners name. you can check for customer feedback online as well.
there is a web site called www.safeorscam.com not every website is on there but quite a few are and it`s completely unbiased and free to use.
