How do I find the answer to y = x divided by 4 if y = 12?

I don't want the answer, that would be cheating. I just need to know how to find the answer. Thnx!

You have to plug in the 12 into the equation so 12=x/4. then to get rid of the 4 you have to multiply both sides by four. not divide. so arabbit was right, 12x4=x

12 = x divided by 4
you want x by itself. 4 divided by 4 and 12 divided by 4. 4 divided by 4 cancels out. its not there anymore.
12 divided by 4 is your answer.

He is wrong. I am sorry. But to remove a number on a denominator you must multiply it by its reciprocal, which in this case is 4/1 (simplifies to 4). Multiply. not divide
