Wow, what a loaded question! Good question. On what issue? Israel is not populated entirely by like-minded people, and not even entirely by Jews. In the religious sense, as a Christian, they are opposed to your main tenets, but they are also the "father" of your religion. It's called "Judeo-Christian" for a reason. Muslims are your "cousins". Their religion is derived more from Judaism than Christianity. What a loaded question...
Christians should definitely support the nation of Israel. We must remember that Israel, the nation, is very special to God. All that we have worth having has come to us through the Jews. Our Bible is a Jewish Book, and our Savior is a Jewish Savior. Let us never forget to pray for God's chosen people. It is true that Israel, today, is in the place of rejection. The nation is a secular, unbelieving (as to the claims of Scripture and their Messiah, Jesus Christ) nation; but "?at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace" (Romans 11:5). Some Jews are being saved and are becoming members of the body of Christ through faith in their Messiah.
James, I Believe That Your Question Is O n e That Is Very Near a n d D e a r To God's Heart. Thanks For A s k- ing It. ----------------------------- Scripture Quote ----------------------------- Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May they prosper who love you [the Holy City]! ----------------------------- May peace be within your walls and prosperity within your palaces! ----------------------------- For my brethren and companions? sake, I will now say, Peace be within you! (Psalm 122:6-8 AMP)
Modern Israel is governed as a secular democracy that officially makes no claim to rely on the God of the Bible. Did the Israelis in 1948 recognize Jehovah God as the one responsible for their declaration of statehood? They did not. Neither the name of God nor even the word ?God? was mentioned anywhere in the original text of the proclamation. The book Great Moments in Jewish History says this of the final text: ?Even at 1:00 P.M. when the National Council met, its members could not agree about the wording of the proclamation of statehood. . . . Observant Jews wanted a reference to ?the God of Israel.? Secularists balked. Compromising, Ben-Gurion decided that the word ?Rock? would appear instead of ?God.?? The modern State of Israel to this day bases its claim to statehood on a UN resolution and what it calls the natural and historic right of the Jewish people. Is it reasonable to expect that the God of the Bible would perform the greatest prophetic miracle in the 20th century in behalf of a people who refuse to give him credit?
You're making the mistake of thinking that what's happening in Israel is a religious thing. It isn't. It's political.
Israel is hated by its Islamic neighbours for religious reasons, as Jews have been hated by Christians for the past 2000 years; but what's happened in Israel is the result of the re-settlement by the Jews following the holocaust.
That had many effects. One of them was to turn an impoverished strip of land, neglected by Palestinians for centuries, into something rich and beautiful. Another was that it forced a lot of Palestinians out of their homeland, and they want it back.
So the hatred that Muslims and Christians have always been ready to show toward the Jews has been magnified by the plight of those Palestinians.
It's not possible to turn back the clock. Should we give Australia back to the Aborigines, or the US to the Indians? What would we do with the present populations whose parents and grandparents were born there and died there? Isn't it their land too?

Yes, but not because of religion. Israel and the US share fundamental values: peace, democracy, human dignity, etc. Israel is the only nation in the Middle East that shares these values with the US. Every other nation there is a ruthless dictatorship, and many of them are enemies of the US, or side and support the enemies. Israel is a tiny peace loving nation, whose neighbors want only to throw into the sea. That is, do another Holocaust. It is the moral duty of any decent human being to support Israel!
