I came home from work to find my 6 yr old dog will not move. He pants, shakes, has muscle tremors, and cannot stand. What is happening?

Is there any type of poison he could have gotten in to? Like mouse or rat poison or insecticides or cleaning products? Your dog is in some type of metabolic shock. He WILL die if you don't get him to vet.

I took him to vet. His heart is good. His belly sounds and other organs are all working properly. However, he has marked weakness on his left side (both front and back leg). The Vet gave him a shot of Cortisone and said we wait to see what happens. I only just adopted him 5 days ago so I do not know his history. The vet said it could be epilepsy too. So now I wait...

Oh that is so sad it breaks my heart!!! I'm so sorry. Did you adopt from PetsSmart ? Because you can demand to know his history. And also return him. He could have been okay and maybe he's having a real hard time adjusting and he could be very scared. I adopted a 3-4 year old dog and she was VERY nervous for almost a year because she had been abused. I hope you let me know if he gets better. That is so so sad.

Okay, I don't know what's happening, but have you taken him to the vet? If not, a little advice: TAKE HIM NOW.

It sound like a seizure... If he is shaking to violently, move objects near him away, so that he doesn't hurt himself. If you can't afford a vet, that's about all you can do.
