Why do more and more people delete their facebook ?

Report as

Facebook is no longer (if it ever truly was) about connecting with your friends. Now it's turned into a a place where people who no longer know how to truly socialize post pics of the food they're eating and give constant updates on what is going on, wearing other people out with their constant updates. And let's not forget all the wonderful, never ending ads on facebook that rarely pertain to anything you want to see. Want to send an email to someone that's not your "friend".... now they charge you for it to go to their inbox. Want to put some embarrassing photos of your friends on facebook? Well that idea didn't work out so great when perspective employers saw those photos and denied employment due to lack of maturity or illegal content. There are MANY reason why people leave facebook.

I love you. Someone else who has figured it out.

I find it useful to stay in touch with a group of friends. If it wasn't for them I'd close my account too. One Sydney journalist described it as "technological onanism" and it seemed particularly apt.

People are getting over the novelty of Facebook, or need time to study possibly and don't want to be distracted. There are plenty of reasons, that's just two of them.

More and more people are realizing how much drama Facebook is. Seriously, it's full of Negative Nancy's. No-one updates their status unless they are whining about how bad their life is, or complaining about someone else.

I only see this in young people bc of their immaturity. My 13 yr old has been having drama on fb. But, i dont see it at my age and the friends i have. (which r many...bc of a business i am in)
Report as
Well I have no kids on my "friends" list. So, this may apply with you, but it doesn't with the majority of people.
Report as
It doesnt apply to me personally. I only know what my daughter is going thru and i see her posts. Most people i see on fb is all positive and maybe spiritual or encouraging sayings. It all depends on who your friends r. I choose to be careful what i post bc of the different kinds of people i know. I have to think about whether i want my daughter to read., people i work with or boss, people from church, etc. so..i rarely post.

My "friends" are the only ones I personally follow on Facebook. So, it's my friends that are posting these things. I don't follow/add just anyone on Facebook.

Friends and family I should say.

It had its place in keeping contact with friends and relatives that live far away and we rarely see. Otherwise....does get old when its just about someone did at lunch, etc. i also dont like it when it just seems like a brag session about oneself. Its just a little turn, off to me.

I use my Facebook to stay motivated to exercise. I have an "exercise" ring on there, we help keep each other motivated to get off our butts. If I didn't have it, I probably wouldn't be doing much about my health. So I can't really complain. I've "unfollowed" a lot of people, including my mother, because I can't do the negativity. It's okay every once in awhile, but when it's all day everyday. Every 20 minutes. Something has to give.

I think its because less people are using it so its getting boring and /or people are sick of that annoying persons statuses about that they ate for breakfast.

Because I was tired of hearing about the boring minutia of the everyday occurrences in the lives of a bunch of strangers. I tired of hearing people complain about stuff that much of the world would feel lucky to have as their biggest problem. I didn't care to see pictures of what people are eating, and I didn't need to see that they had "checked themselves in" seemingly every time they took a dump. I didn't like that every time I finally got used to the way FB was doing things, they seemed to arbitrarily change it. I didn't like that no matter what changes FB made, I still couldn't figure out who was seeing my stuff and who wasn't. I didn't like that I was being asked by FB "to share with others" when "others" really means advertisers -- and the fact that the site is designed and maintained by computer hackers didn't exactly instill trust when it came to my personal information. I have informed all my "friends" that if they have something that I need to know, then they can email me. And if they don't have my email, then I don't need to know.

Love it! I have yet to get rid of mine, currently using the excuse that I have pictures that I want kept and have been too lazy to move them elsewhere. But agreed!

To be honest, I haven't deleted mine either. The above is my fantasy message to Mark Zuckerberg. I rarely go to face book, but my son and his wife in New York still use it to send messages to the family. So if I see that there is a notification of a message, I read it. Otherwise, I have stopped using Facebook and my life is better for it.
Report as
However, I did notify my immediate family that I don't do FB any more, but am available by email.
