Facebook is no longer (if it ever truly was) about connecting with your friends. Now it's turned into a a place where people who no longer know how to truly socialize post pics of the food they're eating and give constant updates on what is going on, wearing other people out with their constant updates. And let's not forget all the wonderful, never ending ads on facebook that rarely pertain to anything you want to see. Want to send an email to someone that's not your "friend".... now they charge you for it to go to their inbox. Want to put some embarrassing photos of your friends on facebook? Well that idea didn't work out so great when perspective employers saw those photos and denied employment due to lack of maturity or illegal content. There are MANY reason why people leave facebook.
More and more people are realizing how much drama Facebook is. Seriously, it's full of Negative Nancy's. No-one updates their status unless they are whining about how bad their life is, or complaining about someone else.

Because I was tired of hearing about the boring minutia of the everyday occurrences in the lives of a bunch of strangers. I tired of hearing people complain about stuff that much of the world would feel lucky to have as their biggest problem. I didn't care to see pictures of what people are eating, and I didn't need to see that they had "checked themselves in" seemingly every time they took a dump. I didn't like that every time I finally got used to the way FB was doing things, they seemed to arbitrarily change it. I didn't like that no matter what changes FB made, I still couldn't figure out who was seeing my stuff and who wasn't. I didn't like that I was being asked by FB "to share with others" when "others" really means advertisers -- and the fact that the site is designed and maintained by computer hackers didn't exactly instill trust when it came to my personal information. I have informed all my "friends" that if they have something that I need to know, then they can email me. And if they don't have my email, then I don't need to know.
