It's absolutely STUPID! Have these people forgotten about 9/11? The very reason TSA exists in the first place? Five man terrorist cells were able to take over planes using small knives (box cutters) and now we're gonna let them back on again? Yes, the cockpit doors are hardened, the pilots have guns, there are Air Marshals on board, but how many passengers and flight attendants have to die before TSA decides this was a bad idea? What GOOD does it do to have knives on the plane? Will we (F/A's) be told who has a knife so that we can deny them alcohol? There's a million reasons why this is a bad idea, for national security reasons and because my WIFE is also a F/A and I don't want her getting her throat slit by some crazed terrorist or just some drunken idiot. Mrs.737 had a good point when we were talking about this yesterday, she said "The terrorists are patient, they'll wait years before they strike again, just when our guard is down. TSA is doing this because it's been so long since the last time it happened, but now it could happen again tomorrow." (paraphrasing).
They said it is in keeping with "airline rules around the world". I think it is not a good idea. The world is becoming more and more violent, and this is just "asking" for problems in a very enclosed space with a lot of people.
I don't see the need for anyone to carry a knife on a plane. However if people on some international flights are allowed to carry a knife it would be prudent to allow everyone to do so. That way everyone can arm themselves and have the means to protect themselves if need be.
I'm honestly split. On the one hand, they can be used as weapons. On the other, it's an incredible waste of time and resources to be chasing down every person who forgot to put their bottle opener in the checked luggage.
This sounds just like a government decision (regardless of party in power). Still can't bring box cutters on a plane. GREAT!!!! So no one would ever use a nice sharp pocket knife to do anything on a plane. The logic (or lack there of) is overwhelming!!!!
It's a bad idea for anything that's classified as a weapon be allowed on any passenger plane! If there were to be a life threatening situation on any plane, people need to fight together at that moment of aggressiveness.
