What type of rear end should i go with for a 89' mustang 5.0, for highway gears?

Im trying to get better gas mileage.

if its a 5 speed just keep the revs down, if you gotta auto, do a swap for a 5 speed. Its all about your driving habits, dont mash the gas from a stop and keep your revs low.

i dont mash out unless im racing, but yeah its 5 speed and im only getting 10 to 11 miles to the gallon.

when im in 5th gear and im on interstate my rpms are at 2 1/2 grand. and its sucking up gas. it makes me wonder if the rear end has something to do with that beacause hell its a 5 speed, i should be getting good gas mileage.

hmm, well try to just keep your revs really low, like around 1000-1250 rpms when just cruising, your car has some torque so it shouldnt bog down to bad at those revs either.

Ohh sorry your other comment didnt load, but yeah it must be your gears, to close of ratios. Dont know exactly what tranny's can fit in them, just search around the web, hell, would be cool to get a 6 speed if there is one that is compatible.

simple with a 5 speed you may want to look into maybe 3.73

possibly a slightly higher gear. if it comes down to it find a similar car with a stock rear for better gas
