I left the keys in a car I borrowed and it was stolen. Am I liable for the value of the car? Can they sue me and take my car? Details added
I borrowed a friends car with his permission. actually it was his business partners car that was being lent to him but I did not know that detail at the time he lent it to me. I had a black out. I was found at a hotel that I apparently thought was my hotel and I was very confused and falling down. That hotel called the police and the cops picked me up and took me to the hospital. I assume I was drugged. I have no memory past a moment of driving down the road and noticing feeling very strange and searching for the hotel that I thought I was staying at. The next thing I knew I was in a hospital being asked questions. I was very confused and still don't remember much of the hospital visit. I apparently drove to that other hotel thinking it was mine and that's when the cops where called because of my confusion. I was not arrested but just taken to the hospital. I was eventually taken back to my ACTUAL hotel. The car was never found. I assume I left the keys in the car at the hotel they found me at when I had mistaken for mine. But I have literally NO memory. Not even of parking the car. What's my situation legally? Can they sue me? Also, can they take my car?
