How do you protect your money when your name is not on the mortgage loan

unmarried couple buy's a home but only one persons name is on the deed

Other than putting both names on the deed the only way I can think of is to have a lawyer draw up a Personal Loan agreement for the amount put in by the One not on the deed, and always make sure that part of payment is made with a check in that persons name.
Be simpler and better to have both names on the Deed unless this is for credit reasons and can't be done.

Get your name put on the Mortgage. Speak with a lawyer, the first consultation is usually free with most, but check into it. Advice can vary from State to State.

I'd want my name on the deed if I'm helping pay for the house. If he would refuse to put my name on the deed, I'd refuse to help pay for the house. That's too big a financial risk to take on one person's word.
