What is the major source of the widespread spiritual blindness that prevents people from understanding God's truth?

Report as

Were your god to exist, the major source of spiritual blindness would be organized religion, and poorly informed followers, asking ignorant questions.

I see. That's unfortunate.

I think that sometimes people are confused. It is hard to have faith sometimes when things go wrong but it is important to stay true to yourself and what you believe in.

JOHN 12........ UNBELIEF ......
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

Division among believers. When bicker and fight over man made creeds and doctrines or over matters that really have nothing to do with our salvation. We are so split on our own beliefs we tend to ignore what God is really calling us to do. We have so many Denominations I lost count and even our denominations have factions or mini denominations. Then the world sees us like this and how are they going to believe Gods truth when we can't even see it ourselves. Until Christians start Listening to God instead of all the rules and regulations we try to live by then Gods truth will elude us. This is the very reason Jesus came. The Jews became too legalistic and forgot the spirit of the laws of the covenant and we are doing the exact same thing now.

@Truth: Education has never been a friend of faith. There was a time with clerics were looked up to as the keeper of all worldly knowledge. Then, beginning with the invention of the printing press, the common man started getting educated, and that dynamic started to fall apart.

Spiritual blindness? Wow. What is the major source of spiritual weakness that compels so many believe in archaic, unsupported fables? Your biased attempt to discredit nonbelievers as damaged or delusional is weak, if not just silly.

Your god himself. Understand this: (Matthew 22:16): "Many are called, but few are chosen".

Can there be anything more perverse, more savage and more mean than this verse? If the Christians confirm that their god is all that they claim him to be, then it is only logical that instead of man asking this god for forgiveness, what actually should be is that this God should ask the forgiveness of man for his tyranny.

Isn't it just as if a father with AIDS should punish his child for AIDS because the child has that congenital disease for which the father is solely responsible? For such a God I have no words to express my loathing and contempt, and all the words in all the languages of man would scarcely be sufficient. Such a sadist god is not worthy of our worship, but be loathed; should be despised, not revered! Away with such a God! I would take my chances, if I must, with Jupiter rather, with Io and Europa, or even Siva with his neckless of skulls and snakes.

The devil. 2 Corinthians 4:3,4 "If, now, the good news we declare is in fact veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through."

I think a true study of (and not just in) the bible is one of the largest reason for not understanding as you call it "God's truth". The bible is chock full of discrepancies, outright lies and ridiculous science.

So God only wants those who understand him. Not those who lack understanding and are in need of a clearer explanation. Another example of a God which lacks reason and logic. You would think that last line should read something like, "...then fear not, for the soil is only in need of more nurturing for the seed which is sown in his heart to take root." But hey, what do I know. As others have said, the Bible is the number one source for atheism.

The apostle Paul spoke to the Ephesian congregation about having the eyes of their heart enlightened. Jesus points out that those who profess to be Christians but who are not conscious of their spiritual need are blind and naked, not discerning their pitiful, groping condition. (Re 3:17) Just as being in darkness for a long period of time will cause blindness to the natural eyes, the apostle John points out that a Christian who hates his brother is walking aimlessly in a blinding darkness (1Jo 2:11); and Peter warns that one not developing Christian fruitage, the greatest of which is love, is “blind, shutting his eyes to the light.” (2Pe 1:5-9) The source of such darkness and spiritual blindness is Satan the Devil, who, transforming himself into an angel of light, actually is “the god of this system of things” and the god of darkness who has blinded the minds of the unbelievers so that they do not discern the good news about the Christ.—Lu 22:53; 2Co 4:4; 11:14, 15.
