Should this be an option on Ask?

I hate it when I ask a question, get an unhelpful answer and become a bit upset at the user's sarcasm/sardonism, and then see that others have voted it up. It's MY question and I should have a say in whether it helped me. Then again, part of the point of Ask is to get as many votes as possible, so part of the point of Ask would be gone if people couldn't vote you up. So I was thinking maybe the "Helpful" and "Fun" votes can be kept, but there's an additional Helpful vote that only the questioner can implement on the page of their question. What do you think?

Report as

The whole vote system decreases in value because of multiple accounts and relationships. Anybody can get votes for a bad, incorrect, nonsense answer. Of course, it's subjective.
The point is to help, have fun. Instead concentrate on comments received. I have seen people get 5 or more votes for an incorrect, obvious, joke answer, while the "asker" has long conversation, thanks the person, the only one without a single vote. If the intent is to help, not a contest, why worry? You can ignore nonsense and acknowledge in comments those you feel are helpful.

But all he is saying is that he himself would like to reward with a vote for an answer he finds someone took the time and thought to form. That is an incentive. Forget about what is already happening. It is independent of this idea.

I see your meaning , although some people just follow other friends around and give them votes , whether it helped you or not ! It's a good idea , but I don't think it will happen ! You know there are groups on here that just vote for their friends anyway . The sarcasm and rudeness will never stop , nor will the "cliques" that just vote for each other . deathedge has a good idea , you know Ask !

I think what they really need, is a blocking option, where another user can't view your page, and can't see your questions or answers or even answer them or comment via your answers. That would be awesome! :D
Report as
shaylen : Send it to them in the Feedback form ! Can't hurt ! Good idea !

I'm like technologically impaired: idk how to do that :/. Do you just click guidelines and find it? I think we should be allowed to delete offensive answers too: you can delete negative comments on this other app: I don't see the harm in it. As long as it's only an answer to your question.

Guys , Ask is actually very aware of the "fun" button being used on good answers and the "helpful " being pressed for nonsense. I text wit 2 the other night and was told they are trying to consider all the options . And this could be the answer if it is worked out just right! Great job Marcus!

Here for the votes, like a pigeon/mouse for a "seed"? Pavlov's dog one isn't. One agrees there should be rational guidelines for commentary and those overseeing perceived "overstepping".

So, in your view, a kid who wants their homework either done, or researched for them should have the 'sole' privilege of 'voting' for the best answer? Nah, I don't think so.

I have found the sarcastic answers are directly related to the 'tupidity of the question. No more, no less. YOUR self important view may be what is more susceptible to bruising than the 'like' button function.

What about when someone asks a perfectly well question and receives a bunch of junk from kids who make an effort to FIND stupidity in a question, and it's all voted up. A kid who wants their homework done isn't the subject.
.
And my view isn't self-important as I realize what's said in my details, happens to everyone.

@tractorbug-hi. I am Sincerity and I am I guess one of the older ones. MadMarxus is one of the kindest most thoughtful and helpful peoe on here. He he does not have any friends he"groups with on here. And that is why he has concerns . Unfortunately, something sad has just happened. He doesn't have friends his age on here, and now someone NOT his age has jumped to the conclusion he is trying to act like the others who don't care what they say or even vote for. With this mow happening to him from both ends of the community, his point has become even MORE valid . Marcus asks serious questions on psychology , astronomy, education, politics, and more than rival if not out do peoes questions who are much older and "supposedly" wiser. He is saying, why should he ask a really good question (which he comes up with using his own research done on his "free tim (he doesn't game) and he really want ro learn! So he asks us, mostly because of the people here on Ask. and what does he get from his questions which are design to make us think? Answers from teens that are nonsense which other teens freward with points which frankly aren't deserved. NOW ro make things worse, for his idea of being able to star an answer or two himself, the designer of the question and giving respect where it is really due (brilliant idea) , he has been met with your answer of assumption...and my heart just cant pass this up to let you know Marxus is the real deal here. He wouldn't ask questions to get homework answers or questions that were rude, he actually asks wuestions that bring the community of Ask together. I am respectfully asking you to reconsider this answer you gave him. If it hurt my feelings which it did (for him) I can guarantee it hurt his. He's a 17 year old young man like no other. Think of how you would have felt at this age receiving this post after carefully thinking about and constructing a really good question . The mods and Edic are working hard at trying to figure out how ro keep these "clicks" from running the show and

getting rewarded for nothing. If the poster could recognize someone who took the actual time to answer with a decent response so all of us wouldn't look like collective idiots to the rest of the people in foreign countries who read this site, I say "hats off". At least he's trying to he'll fix the problem...not comain, assume, and judge in one fast sweep. I hope this helps you and others understand more where he is coming from. And no, I am not his mother, teacher, Aunt, sister, anything. I am just a woman who sees this young man grow and care while I see many others his age and younger regress. And it's just not Marcus...we have many bright young peoe who care about their answers and give food ones. How are they rewarded? Not with a point of helpful, but these clicks have now begun to press only the "helpful" button unless it's one of their friends. The mods are trying ro figure out what ro do, he came up with a plan, and your answer appeared. Anyway, thanks for reading this I you did. I know it's long. I read almost all your answers, however I realize you probably have never seen me on here. Please consider revising your answer for this fine young man.
Report as
I meant to say the clicks are pressing just the "FUN" buttons to really good answers, and "helpful" to nonsense for their friends or their clicks . PLEASE EXCUSE all these mistakes in this post. My phone is broken and I have to get a new one. I swear I know how to spell and form a thought.

Sometimes sarcasm is the best way to answer a question! Especially when people ask incredibly stupid questions. I see no need to get offended by someone trying to be a little humorous. Obviously other people agree when they click 'helpful.'

A brilliant idea! So that clicks can't get involved, we could inform a person in charge of it that we would like certain answers to receive a "reward" vote for outstanding input. I KNOW the mods are weeding out the nonsense as fast as they can, BUT the other end of the pole isn't being addressed along with it...reward votes. Not saying ANYTHING on how to implement it. Right now, I'm saying this idea has real merit.

I'm inclined just to let it roll, Marcus. I star lots of answers simply because of the effort or the research, or the originality that went into them. They may not have "helped" me personally but I can appreciate what the answerer accomplished.

We'll never get past multiple-account abuse (a few weeks ago one kid boasted that he had 15 separate accounts) but if somebody has to vote for themselves it's a rather sad self-judgment. It's rather like the person who sends themselves Christmas cards so that they can say they got more than their friends.

If I wanted to make one change to the voting system, I'd remove the "Fun" option. It doesn't really mean anything.

Marcus, reading your question and the responses has been enlightening..
I must say that the vast majority of my answers are nonsense to me and most everyone who reads them.
I get a great many of both answers and comments deleted as a result of my nonsensical use of ask.com
I've stated on many occasions the votes mean little to me and shouldn't in anyway be viewed as having any value or representing value.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is, what your saying makes a lot of sense to me and I'm glad you shared.
The input and comments shared here, is the essence of what the sites intentions should be... not a forum for nonsense.
