What are your opinions on abortion?

Personally, I believe it is VERY wrong, and God's Word backs me up. But I'd like to hear some other opinions on the matter.

GOD and I will make my choice.. I can't decide for another woman what she does with her body...and its no one's business but mine.

Report as

Nope
Report as
So if you were killed before you were born, you wouldn't care? You do realize that you wouldn't be alive right now, right?
Report as
^Are you serious? -_- how on Earth could someone care if their parents wanted to abort? You'd have absolutely no idea because you barely have a brain when you're aborted. If a fetus were actually able to realise, then nothing would change anyways.
Report as
Aborting a child is depriving them of the right to live. A baby has no choice in the matter. Wouldn't you want the choice of whether you got to exist or not? I can guarantee that if babies were capable of deciding, they would choose to live.
Report as
None of this matters but the mother. If a woman does not want to be pregnant than she can get rid of it. And don't go on about "only have sex if you want kids" bullcrap. I never want kids and I've been sexually active for years and if I, or anyone, got pregnant, they have choices. You cannot force a woman to have a child.
Report as
You're right. You cannot force a woman to have a child. But you can not allow a woman to kill the child SHE conceived.
Report as
You can't guarantee something like that. If everybody that was ever conceived wanted to live, suicide would be unknown.
Report as
Not true. Have you ever heard of a baby or even a young child committing suicide? When people commit suicide, it is because of either something they have or something they have not done. Or it is because of something other people have or have not done. People don't just decide they never wanted to live. They decide, because of things that have happened to them, that they don't want to live ANYMORE.
Report as
Not true. Have you ever seen a young child commit suicide? People commit suicide because of something that is wrong. Whether it's depression, bullying, loneliness, or even anger, people commit suicide because of something that has or hasn't happened to them. They don't decide they never wanted to live. They decide they don't want to live anymore.
Report as
whoops. I thought the first one didn't send
Report as
A person first has to have the physical ability to commit suicide, so babies are automatically excluded. A person also has to understand what death is. And then they have to know what things can cause death. Only when all of those are in place can an individual begin to contemplate suicide.

And more than one person has wished they were never born.
Report as
They have wished they were never born because of things that have happened to them. Not because they just randomly decided they would rather not exist than exist.

And you exist either way, just saying. Even if you are dead you still exist.

Oh no not this. Fine if I give you my answer you asked for it, no need to criticize me for it. I think that abortions should be as open as possible, but done as little as possible.

Helpful Fun Thanks for voting Comments (5)
Report as
I won't criticize you, just debate you. The problem your statement is that the more abortion is available, the more it will be done. It's one or the other. If you had a choice between abortion being widely available and lots of people having abortions, or no one can have an abortion, so none ever happen, which would you choose?
Report as
If abortion is not legally available, it still happens. Women have always done things in the hopes of causing a miscarriage, sometimes with tragic results. And when legal abortion is not available, there are plenty of unscrupulous characters ready to take advantage of a woman in a desperate situation by performing the dreaded "back alley abortion". Brush up on what was going on before Roe v. Wade so that you are better prepared for the debate you started.
Report as
Even if abortions would still happen without it being legal, it would certainly happen much less often if it was a crime.
Report as
It was a crime before Roe v. Wade. And it still happened. Who can say how often?
Report as
Just because something still happens when it's outlawed doesn't make it OK to make it legal, since it will happen either way. Just because people sell drugs, even though it's illegal doesn't make it OK to do, or OK to legalize.

How does god's word back you up? God has children murdered for all kinds of idiotic stuff in the bible.

Helpful Fun Thanks for voting Comments (12)
Report as
First of all, Exodus 20:13 says "You shall not murder." People will say that babies aren't humans, yet. Therefore they aren't murdering someone if they murder a baby. Jeremiah 5:1, however, says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you." In other words, God counted you as already existing even before you were born. He knew you before you were even conceived. Having an abortion is depriving that baby of the right to live.
Report as
The Bible says not to kill. God didn't murder but he did allow it to happen. You have to be a Christian to understand.
Report as
Actually the Bible says not to murder. God told Israel to conquer other nations, and that involved killing. However, killing an innocent baby, not in a war, but because of selfish desires, is murdering.
Report as
So first he says not to murder, but later he changes his mind. And god didn't just "allow" it to happen, he "commanded" that people be killed. Guess you have to be literate to understand.

"Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin your task right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders. "Defile the Temple!" the LORD commanded. "Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill! Go!" So they went throughout the city and did as they were told." (Ezekiel 9:5-7 NLT)
Report as
God commanded that people be KILLED. God NEVER commanded or allowed people to be MURDERED. There is a difference.
Report as
What is the difference?
Report as
The difference between killing and murdering is the motive. When you kill, you are doing it either to promote peace (in a war), or to protect others (a person comes into your house with a gun and threatens to kill your wife and kids), or for a similar, unselfish reason. When you murder, it is out of hate, greed, selfishness, or a similar motive.
Report as
How do you explain away this verse?

From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB)
Report as
Did Elisha kill the children? No. God punished the children for mocking a prophet of the Lord.
Report as
God had other options available, didn't he? Being lost in the woods overnight, unsheltered, hungry and scared is a punishment. Being torn limb from limb? Overkill and unnecessary, especially when the death should occur for an unselfish reason, as you said above.
Report as
Who are you to judge what God does? God is just. In His wisdom, he killed the children. You can't tell God that what he did was too much and unnecessary. Those children were mocking God's messenger. They offended God. Therefore, it was God's RIGHT to choose how they should be punished.
Report as
You look at what you think god does and you judge it to be good and right, and you are okay with that. You, too, judge god's actions.

I think all women have the right to chose to have an abortion if they do not want to be pregnant.

Women do have the right to choose. They can choose whether to have sex or not. If women are irresponsible and they have sex when they aren't ready to be a mother, they face the consequences of their actions by becoming pregnant.

And whose fault is it that she would get pregnant?
Report as
Fornication is not a bad thing and if I get pregnant I will have an abortion. It's MY BODY so I am the only one on Earth who decides what is allowed to grow off of me.
Report as
In fact, I've been fornicating since I was 14 and I've never been pregnant and I'm still with the giy I lost my virginity to. Also, nobody cares about it.
Report as
I don't understand how your question applies to my answer?
"Doubls, are you endorsing fornication?"
Are you unaware that married women can and do have abortions?
Report as
You say that fornication is not bad. That is not what God says. Hebrews 13:4 says "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous."
Report as
Sure, I'm aware of that. Even married people shouldn't have abortions. Their priority should be their child. They shouldn't kill their child so they can proceed with their plans. They should adjust their plans so they can care for their child.

My best friend was raped. And the pregnancy was giving her a lot of medical issues. So in order to keep herself healthy she had to get an abortion.
Report as
A 14 year old gets raped and pregnant. A 30 year old still doesn't want a child. It doesn't matter.
Report as
Mikababy, are you a Christian? (This isn't irrelevant. I need to know before I comment to your comment.)
Report as
No im not.
Report as
swallex, there are other options. Even if a 30 year old doesn't want a child, if she gets one, it is her responsibility to care for that child. If a 14 year old gets raped, she can put her child up for adoption.
Report as
I think if your dumb enough to not use protection then its yourown fault and your responcibilty to take care of that child. But in a rare curcumstance (like my friend) i think abortoin is an okay option.
Report as
OK. I have an alternative for your rare circumstance. Your friend, if she was a Christian, could have asked God in fervent prayer to work the situation out. Then trust the Lord that He would be faithful and do His will in the situation. Since, you are not a Christian, though, don't expect you to agree with me that that is an option.
Report as
No shes not. But i think she had every right.
Report as
Answer me this. If someone else does something wrong to you, does that make it right for you to do something wrong?

Wrong + Wrong DOES NOT = Right
Report as
No but Thats not what were talking about. My friend was having medical problems that wouldve killed her and the baby. So she did what she had to do. Yes, its sad, but there was no other way.
Report as
You're right. There's no other way for you or your friend. Thankfully, my God is greater than medical problems. He made your friend's body, and He can fix it.
Report as
Well if thats what you believe, then good for you
Report as
Maybe she did pray and pray and ask god to fix her so she could carry the baby and god's answer was "No. You should have an abortion." Doesn't god say "No" sometimes?
Report as
First of all, God will never tell you to do something that goes against His word. He will never tell you to MURDER (not kill) anyone, born or unborn. Second, Mikababy said that her friend isn't a Christian. When non-Christian asks God for something, He looks at them and sees someone who doesn't know Him. So the first thing He deals with is their salvation. Only then will He give them their original request. (See Mark 2:1-4) Also, the request has to be for the right motives for God to say yes (most of the time).
Report as
What better way would there be for a non-christian to become a believer than to be in such a situation, to ask god for help and for god to do so?
Report as
But that's not how God works. If her friend understood how God works, she would have realized that her prayers were ineffective until she accepted Christ.
Report as
Holy crap people. It's DONE. Stop acting like it was a mistake and can be fixed. My friend made HER own decision on what she thought was right. Which is more then what you have ever done. It's not your job to judge her because you don't know anything. Stop living by a book and start thinking for yourself.
Report as
@mikababy, we're not judging your friend. We're just using her situation as an example. Don't take it personally.
Report as
Well you shouldnt use her as an example, because its a rare thing to happen. But you should really dorp it now

Abortion should absolutely always be an option. There are lots of cases where it is absolutely necessary. People who just think of it as murder show clear narrow mindedness and no understanding for why some people need it. Voting against it simply because of religion is the worst reason I can think of. Actually, it's not even a real reason. Religion should absolutely never interfere with things that actually matter or things that have nothing to do with it.

Helpful (2) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (10)
Report as
What is religion to you?
Report as
I don't belong to any religion.
Report as
Religion means absolutely nothing and is worthless and a waste if time to me. Many have shown that they only believe in it because they were indoctrinated into it from birth, need it for emotional comfort, or are just ignorant and in denial of other religions, scientific, and historical fact that contradicts their dogma, and are in denial of the obvious unethical teachings of their "holy book".
Report as
How do you explain people who were drug dealers, or pimps, or anything like that, and once they meet Jesus, they completely turn their life around. They become upstanding citizens and you would never have known they were awful people before. People can't do that by just making their mind up. They need the help of the Holy Spirit.
Report as
They DO do that just by making their mind up. It is all inside of each of us to be whatever we may be. If some people have to stop doing things that are harmful to themselves and others by attributing the shift to a power beyond themselves, so be it. It is still just themselves making up their minds to be different.
Report as
How do you explain my personal experiences with the Holy Spirit?
Report as
That is some very fallacious logic there. Some christians decided to change their lives so that means the entire religion is true. No one actually meets jesus or talks to jesus. Tons of people find ways to better themselves and change their lives for the better without a belief christianity. You are obviously ignoring everyone's else's religion and how they think it's helped them or how letting go of christianity has helped people become happier and live better lives. Every other religion is no less credible than christianity since none of them have any proof that they're correct. And you're also ignoring how many christians there are in prisons and how more secular nations show to be more peaceful very religious ones. You seem to be a young teenager and not well suited for a debate. Someone wanting a good debate wouldn't have used what you said as an argument. I think you should study a bit more if your looking to debate.
Report as
No holy spirit has blessed anyone. You just believe it has and have absolutely no proof that it exists. You should try and explain how Vishnu blesses Hindus and strengthens their faith or how Dionysus or Apollo or Aphrodite blesses a believer in old Hellenismos.
Report as
Your error was that you said Christianity was a religion. It's not. Those who view Christianity as a religion are those who wind up in jail or aren't peaceful. Those who are Christian in name only have no real faith. They say a prayer to get their "fire insurance" and proceed to living however they want. True Christianity is a relationship with Jesus, through the Holy Spirit. So yes, I have talked to and with Jesus. I have personally experienced a tiny smidgeon of the power of God, which was overwhelming to me. I have had the Holy Spirit speak through me in another language I have never learned. I can't deny my personal experiences.
Report as
I only read half way through because you're showing clear bias, not presenting any proof for your claims, and just sounding arrogant by saying your religion is more than it is while denying everyone else's religion and how they think it's changed their lives. You really do seem like a bias kid so I'm not going to spend anymore time on this.

If you don't want to keep the baby have the decency to put the baby up for adoption so that families that want children and aren't able to can have children. Also everyone deserves to live and nobody should be denied life no matter how old or little they are. I think abortion is the same thing as killing an adult. No, God's plan was for that child to live. By aborting the child, you are throwing a monkey wrench in God's plan. If God didn't want the child to live, why would He let the child be conceived in the first place?

The child did live. According to you, life begins at conception.
Report as
OK let me reword what I said. God's plan was for that child to have a life outside of his mother's womb.

It is obvious he didn't, and just because you don't agree with it doesn't make that not so.

I am against it!! In my opinion I think it's stupid if you are dumb enough to have sex before marriage you should at least step up and take care of your baby because it was your fault so you need to step up and take care of YOUR child

Helpful (1) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (6)
Report as
So the punishment for having sex before marriage is to have a child. People that are irresponsible about birth control seldom shape up just because they have a kid. They go on about their lives and the child is left to fend for itself.
Report as
They could at least do the decent thing and put their child up for adoption if they're going to be that irresponsible and not care for their child themselves.
Report as
But they don't. And you know they don't. How many people do you know who have given up a child for adoption? I had a friend who knew she wasn't ready to care for a child so gave it up and her family cut her off completely, even though they were not willing to do anything to help her keep the child.
Report as
They might if abortion wasn't an option.
Report as
Let me restate that. I had a pregnant friend who knew she wasn't ready to be a mother. She wanted to give the baby up for adoption. Her family talked her out of that and into keeping the baby. After he was born she wasn't able to handle motherhood and working, and her family (that talked her out of putting the baby up for adoption) wouldn't do anything to help her. So she did give the baby up for adoption when he was 3 months old and her family cut her off completely because they were angry with her for giving the baby up for adoption.
She didn't have an abortion.

She did the right thing.

Wrong. It should only be used for the cases in which women were raped, because no one should be forced to carry a criminal's child, but other than that...wrong. I'm not saying that women should have no choices, I mean I guess if you don't wanna get pregnant take a condom. But if you're not responsible and just have unprotected sex without thinking, you should be forced to live up to your mistakes.

So you think that a person that is not responsible about using birth control and becomes pregnant should have no choice but to birth a child and be responsible for the life of another person.
