Is my boyfriend too controlling?

I just moved in with him, and the relationship is going great but there is one thing...

He makes sure that I'm always dressed warmly before I head out for the day.

That means my canada goose jacket, a wool hat, gloves, and scarf, and thermal underwear under my pants and sweaters (usually 2).

It's getting warm outside (high 40s), but he says since it's still winter I should bundle up.

I'm great on chilly mornings, but by the afternoon, I'm getting a little flushed lol. Especially with double layers!

Am I complaining about nothing? He's being sweet I think he likes being protective of me. And I like being protected. I'm having so much fun, should I just go with it?

just tell him you're fine and not to worry about you so much, but I think he's just trying to keep you safe

He is not too controlling, but rather caring. It shows how much he cares for you and he wouldn't wish you to get into any danger. Just go on with it and appreciate it a lot.

I do appreciate it! He even bought me that (expensive!) coat, and a few pairs of thermal underwear when I told him I was cold. They are super warm and made for skiing I think. I just know he would appreciate it if I wore them all winter.

If you really cared for someone, would you wear thermal underwear under your pants, a turtleneck, and a knit hoodie, and a down parka, with hat and gloves and scarf, in 50 degree weather though? :)

Sounds like hes just making sure your nice n cozy.....that you wont get sick but you dont necessarily have to keep both sweaters on until the afternoon wear them depending how the day is progressing. Let him know that if you come home without a sweater or 2 its cause you feel too hot to wear them anymore but to not worry. Also the more you try to take care of yourself the more youll get sick. But hes doing the right thing hes keeping you safe and tell him you appreciate it that he cares so much about you. When spring ends and summer is starting if hes still making you wear soooo much clothes then THATS being over protective

I think he really likes taking care of me, and that's why he always makes sure I'm dressed warmly. I told him I was cold a few months ago and so he bought me a few pairs of expensive thermal underwear, and I just know he would appreciate it if I wore them all winter.

If you really cared for someone, would you wear thermal underwear under your pants, a turtleneck, and a knit hoodie, and a down parka, with hat and gloves and scarf, in 50 degree weather though? :)

No thats exaggeration but instead of wearing all of them at a time use like 1 or 2 pieces per day that way you take turns and he sees your wearing everything

Like you said, I never get sick! Here is how it usually happens: In the morning I lay out my clothes for the day, then he usually adds long johns and an extra sweater when I'm in the shower lol. Would you just tough it out if you really cared about the person?
Report as
Yeah probably haha but id also let him know that im thankful dat hes so caring but i dont feel comfortable with so much clothes on

You're right, He is just really caring, and I really appreciate it. In the morning I lay out my clothes for the day, then he usually adds long johns and an extra sweater when I'm in the shower lol. Even today when it went up to 50 degrees on my walk home! Would you just tough it out if you really cared about the person?

She asking us what she do, i dont think u should ask her that type of question!!!

I just think you should be direct. Ask him why he's so insistent that you layer up so much. If he's as nice as you say he is, he'll answer honestly. Then you won't have to wonder anymore.

He cares, wants to make sure you warm, and you don't get sick. But if it's to the point where he's FORCING you to wear this stuff and picking out your clothes, then that's controlling.

And he doesn't force me :), just really cares and makes sure I'm warm before I leave for work in the morning. I said I was cold a few weeks ago, and he bought me a few pairs of really nice thermal long underwear and tops. I just know he would appreciate it if I wore them all winter.

If you really cared for someone, would you wear thermal underwear under your pants, a turtleneck, and a knit hoodie, and a down parka, with hat and gloves and scarf, in 50 degree weather though? :)

I wouldn't, actually. I'd be sweating my butt off. I'd wear what I was comfortable in, but I understand that he just wants you to be warm.

Thanks! Most people here say go with it, and you're right. I appreciate it and I do feel he's being really cute and caring!!

Just out of curiosity would you would you wear thermal underwear under your pants, a turtleneck, and a knit hoodie, and a down parka, with hat and gloves and scarf, when the weather is above 50, if you really liked someone?

He cares about you. He wants you to warm, but if you start to get hot maybe next time tell him that you don't need as much layers

Oh I'm definitely getting hot by the end of the day! Have you ever worn long underwear under your pants, and a few sweaters, and a hat scarf and gloves, on a 50 degree day? lol... but he is really caring, and it's clear he really likes knowing that he's protecting me :) Should I just keep doing it?

he probably wants to show that he cares ,nothing more. but what's wrong with telling him you appreciate his caring ,but you're a big girl now and have been dressing yourself for a long, long time with no boo boos so you'll decide by yourself .and don't worry he'll find other ways to show he cares and you get to act like a big girl . every body is happy.

Your a big girl, you dress yourself, so you decide what to wear not him! He sounds like a great person and just cares for you. It's only controlling if you go against his wishes and he won't stand for it, which would make it "his demands"
Thats just my opinion!
