What do you think about the U.S claiming the ability to kill it's citizens in 'emergency' situations?

Report as

I admit that I find such a prospect a little unnerving. I would be curious as to how loose the term "emergency" will become in the future. I would also be curious as to how many of these "emergencies" will be "manufactured" all in the name of "public safety". A very mysterious package the future of our country seems to be currently wrapped in.

that sux! 9/11 what do u think happened 2 the plane that crashed in2 the woods in PA...? Thoughs people paid the ultimate price they could 4 America, God bless them. That plane was heading 4 the White House. There's NO WAY our goverment would let that iconic home of American Presidents take a hit if they could avoid it...We'll not know the truth 2 this question 4 a long time. What I believe is the plane did crash in the woods of PA...truth. What we wont be told is the plane crashed after it was shot out of the air by a branch of the US armed forces. That was a situation where people were killed by the goverment 2 protect its citeziens... thats what the goverment would/will say was 4 the "Emergency protection" and the "Greater good" of the country citizens...that is, of course, if they ever tell us the truth. There's other instances in US history where the goverment (military) killed US citizens...beside the civil war erea of course... George Washington was the 1st president 2 order the military 2 kill US citizens, if need be, in the "Wiskey Rebellions"...it can, has, and will happen agian if the goverment wants it done... They have PR people who'll whip up a pro goverment cover story that, Im sad 2 say, would prob. have people in America screaming 4 more blood!

Holy conspiracy theory, batman.
Report as
I believe that our Govt, did indeed fail us on 9-11. There was a rumor going around about one of the flight school teachers filing some report about one or more of the terrorists wanting to learn how to fly, but NOT INTERESTED IN LEARNING TO LAND THE PLANE! Also I believe one or more of the terrorists also purchased ONE WAY TICKETS WITH CASH to board the plane(s)!!! If that is not an immediate red flag in any officials mind, that only begs the question: Did our own govt. fail us ON PURPOSE? I do not believe any of the stories about explosives being placed in the Twin Towers. The REAL conspiracy theorist IN ME says that those very theories are dis/mis-information spewed by our own govt./media complex. Loony? YOU tell me!
Report as
I think you're rite on!!! No bombs. They flew the planes in2 the targets... but none in2 the White House?

Well, if the citizens in question are acting like homocidal maniacs, then i have no problem with it.

So you don't believe in our Bill of Rights then. We either are a country of laws or we are no longer a country. You can't have it both ways. A trial by jury is how our law reads. The only time they can take you out is if you are in the act of killing.
Report as
Please be sure of who you are speaking to, sir.
Report as
To Pvt Pyle: I basically agree with you, but drone technology does NOT eliminate "collateral damage". So if your next door neighbor is cooking up some homemade explosives in his basement and some President decides s/he is going to authorize a drone attack and you or your loved ones just happen to die because some projectile from the explosion crashed through your bedroom window I hope you accept Uncle Sam's "Oops" and hopefully a decent apology as well. I also hope that our own govt. doesn't decide to CREATE some of those "homocidal maniacs", by engaging in $hit disturbing or other forms of skulldugery.

Do you see my picture? It is a tank. Which leads me to inform you that i like watching things explode. How did this even get started anyway? Why do we all of a sudden care so much about these robots?
Report as
To PvtPyle: Yes, I see your picture, and I do indeed see that it is a tank. I too, like to see things explode. (Well not as much as I used to, but the pleasure of seeing things blow up is still there somewhat.) How did this get started? Well the question itself and which you initially answered and which others including myself have subsequently commented on started all of this. I never really cared too much about drones either as long as they were just flying over Area-51 or some third world rats nest. I'll even admit to not really caring too much about other peoples collateral damage that drones can cause. I was just disturbed by reports of drone sightings by pilots and others of the things flying over the continental United States. Why would these things be flying over US that is "uhs" as in "us" NOT just the "United States"? Just the fact that most of my government has taken the attitude that a little peon like me, doesn't have the right to even ASK such a question never mind be entitled to an answer should probably disturb you too. Still, I will admit, much to the governments delight, that there is probably not much I can do about it, so in effect, there is something to be said about putting ones head up one's "four pointed contact" or like the ostrich, in a hole in the ground.
Report as
Okay, i have no idea what you just said, but check this out: they don't bother me because not a single one of them that i know of has shot an A-G missile at me. And i have nothing to hide from them, anyway.
Report as
To PvtPyle: Let me see if I can put it in a nutshell: I was just responding to your second comment. I was talking about the drones (unmanned aircraft containing high explosives that can take out targets via "remote control") Sorry I got too windy. I can summarize my last comment by saying to you (and anyone else reading our correspondence) that there isn't much I/we can do right now to prevent the govt. from taking out intentionally or accidentally American citizens on foreign soil. Lets just hope Uncle Sam doesn't decide to use such instruments on DOMESTIC soil. (It appears Uncle Sam is "playing" with such instruments on domestic soil.)
Report as
Well, i don't mind. He's got no reason to practice on me.

Dear Senator Paul:

It has come to my attention that you have now asked an additional question: "Does the President have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil?" The answer to that question is no.

Sincerely,

Eric H. Holder, Jr.

Yup. It took an almost 13 hour filibuster where Rand Paul ranted how wrong it was to kill people without due process, to finally get the answer we the people were looking for. Thank you Rand Paul. He fought for all Americans. He really is making both the Republicans and the Democrats look bad. Most of them would have allowed a president to make this decision because they had faith that a president would never do this. McCain and Graham should be ashamed of themselves. It's about time someone stood up for our Constitution instead of working around it.

This program started before Obama was even a thought in anybodys mind.. Another circumstance where the people asking the questions the loudest stayed silent for years..
To me.. you forfeit your right to complain when its not important enough to speak up about when it counts..
and it counted long ago!
