Do app developers make multiple versions of the same app to fit on many types of devices?(like one for a iPad and one for an iPhone)

I am writing an app using Corona SDK. I have made it simulating it only on iPhones. When I see what it looks like on a tablet or iPad the graphics are small and the objects spread out(which makes sense since the code uses the width and height of the device to place objects.) I was wondering if there are usually two versions made of an app, one for phones and one for tablets, to make things easier, or if there is some form of code I need to find to make it universal.

Developers make multiple versions of the same app. This can be done by having different sets of configuration settings or by using different bundle identifiers. However, this is not the same in all instances. Some developers make apps that only work on one platform.
