How can I convince my parents to let me go on a school trip to Europe?

When I'm fourteen, my gifted class (along with several others from around the county) will be going on an eight day trip to Paris and then London with EF. I really want to go, but my parents think I might be a little too young. I'm very mature for my age and I think that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm willing to pay for as much of the trip as I possibly can, but my parents are still undecided and the final day to sign up is in three days.

I would suggest putting them in touch with the teacher organising the trip - if they have questions about the trip (e.g. details, organisation, supervision, accommodation) having them answered will likely put their minds at ease.

If they're worried you won't be able to cope on the trip (e.g. get homesick, not be able to cope without them) just talk calmly and reasonably to your parents. Explain the educational importance, how unique the opportunity is and how well and responsibly you plan to conduct yourself on the trip.

It's not unreasonable that a sensible 14 year old should be trusted to go on a school trip abroad provided it's well organised and well supervised.

All I can say is that I'm the same age, and I can't even go down the street or hang out with my friends without one of my parents being there.

No, I respect my parents. Even if it's embarassing, I respect their authority. And they try to keep their distance, but like Dradebaugh said, they love me, and do it for protection. I come from a strict family, even when I hang around friends.

For those last three days just do everything your parents ask you to do. Follow the rules, be respectful and maybe by then they'll see you're mature enough to go:)

I went to Europe at that age, but my dad was a chaperone for the trip. You should explain the educational values of it and remind them you probably won't get another opportunity.

Oh, and two of those eight days will be travelling. It was a 13 hour flight from Columbus, OH to Paris... not including bus trips, layover, and the remaining flight to Rome.
