Why doesn't the GOD make people lives better?

For many centuries, people lived like animals. Where was the god then? It was after the 19th century that people started to lead comfortable lives. in the past, in some cultures, people used to eat each other. For millions of years, people were no better than animals. Why did the god let people suffer like that for a long time?

god gives them choices to do what they want (even if its eat others)

My belief is b/c there is no god, or at least none that really give a crap about humans. We have come to lead comfortable lives because we learn to make things better for ourselves, not because some deity thinks it's time for us to finally prop our feet up.

Moving forward on the skills and wits of our progenitors, quite often in spite of the best efforts of the religious sect. It never ceases to amaze how many followers of faith are so down on their own species.

Well FIRST of all, you can't believe in "millions of years" and in God at the same time. And God DOES make peoples lives better. All you have to do is accept his gift of forgiveness.

That doesn't explain why people who DOES except his "gift of forgiveness" still suffer.

Maybe this god finds suffering funny... or maybe he just doesn't feel like helping anyone... either way... it's better to focus on what human is doing...

What's a figment? And how where do we get an imagination from? I'm just curious how u see those things.
Report as
Imagination is the conception of ideas, images, and beliefs that are not based on observation. A figment is any manifestation of these. The origin of imagination is a psychological function employed to make sense of what isn't understood. Also, a means of entertainment for bored children. DK, you know my position. We've had the ol' back and forth before.
Report as
Torngren,
I know u claim atheism, I don't remember talking about "imagination" with u before....maybe a while back and maybe u had a different avatar, idk.
Report as
Lol, very possible. I change avatars daily.
Report as
Ok, so a "conception of an idea" or "psychological function" and a figment being a specific "idea" or "function". Do also give the meaning of creativity or inventiveness to imagination or strictly the two descriptions u offered. I'm not going to agree or disagree with your definition of imagination, but want to first understand u before discussing further. If your not interested, that's of course fine...I'm not trying to pic a fight or get on your nerves. Lol
Report as
No worries, DK. You're one of the more reasonable and philosophical believers. Much more pleasant to debate with than those who only care to assault nonbelievers with scripture. Creativity finds root in the word 'create'. Which can be either imagination, or the physical act of creating something. Inventiveness is a result of needing resolution to a situation or problem. I can't always respond right away. But I'll address any comment you leave, when I have the opportunity.
Report as
I understand about responding right away...I'm always mega busy it seems and kind of new better than to get into a discussion since I have a weekend project in our bathroom and exterior painting to get done! I'd rather be talking with u. Lol
Yeah, scripture essential for those that believe it as such and for say explaining what we believe but as far as trying to convince u to believe with scripture is like saying "u should believe this stuff because I say u should!" Not exactly convincing unless u accept a certain authority o scripture to begin with. Lol
I may try and resume this "imagination" business with u latter. Btw, your avatar name sounds awfully nordic to me...is it Norwegian?
Report as
'Torngren's origin is lost, from what I've researched. . .I'm Irish, and Torngren is only my screen name, lol.

God/Jesus is no longer in the business of just snapping his fingers to cure a persons problems.....and sitting around expecting someone to magically make your life better is about as helpful as wackin your toes with a ball-peen hammer......as they have long said, he helps those who help themselves.....which really only means that he won't really help at all......

You are indirectly saying that it was not the god who created humans. I agree that. It means that humans have have been evolving and Charls Darwin is correct.

The world is now under God's Curse (Genesis 3:17) because of man's rebellion against God's Word. This "bondage of corruption," with the "whole world groaning and travailing together in pain" (Romans 8:21-22), is universal, affecting all men and women and children everywhere. God did not create the world this way, and one day will set all things right again. In that day, 'God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain" (Revelation 21:4). The sufferings of unsaved men are often used by the Holy Spirit to cause them to realize their needs of salvation and to turn to Christ in repentance and faith.

Why didn't the god create more advanced human being who can do nothing wrong? Why did he create people who are likely to ruin his creation? If he created this world, why didn't he take control of everything that happen on earth?

Here goes the motivation by fear that propels the doctrines of Abrahamic religions. Intelligent people have grown past being told by windy ancient texts how sinful, weak and insignificant we are all supposed to be, in the eyes of invisible deities.

he made mankind perfect. Adam n Eve carried no imperfections. he gave them free will they chose disobedience. Jehovah does not want us to follow him because we have to .he wants us to do it out of love. the badness in the world is not oweing to God . but to man and to Satan. 1 John 5:19 "We know we originate with God but the whole world lies in the power of the wicked one."

Thamara, like Jill said, Adam and Eve were perfect and they chose to disobey God. God is in complete control and always will be. On day everything will be made right again.

somebody gave you a most wonderful gift and you rejected it do you think that he would give you another 1? God gave us a beautiful place to live with clean water ,fresh air ,beautiful flowers and trees, mountains. the ocean. a place to live with plenty of space to live in to grow food. But man rejected this gift and rejected him who gave it Jehovah. he gave us free will. we live our lives the way that we want to. when we have a good life we Pat ourselves on the back if it's a bad life we blame God. But he gives us hope of a better future we read at Psalms 37:11: but the meek ones will possess the earth and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace

Your assumption that "they" (in the non-modern past) had more suffering is not likely. The experience of suffering is relative to the context that one lives in. Certainly they had many disadvantages but most of that is known only by comparing our present with their past. They on the other hand had no way to compare their present with our future. So, the human experience of suffering is likely more universal in a more objective sense then from a comparative (subjective) sense. As far as why is there suffering goes, that is something perhaps only God will reveal when our lives and this "age" are over. Philosophically, one way to understand it is that without the reality of suffering there would seem no conceivable experience of the reality of say "comfort" or pleasure or "happy" circumstances. Also, the reality of suffering is a natural driving force to ask the question "why" and to seek what is ultimate and true in life. :-) ....... Or perhaps ;-(

Are you saying that this is a some kind of an examination to see how we cope with that. After all, what is the purpose of that? Does the god want to punish people who fail the test?
Report as
Well God, the One I seek (of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the apostles) is not bound to provide us will all knowledge. In fact if God is God then it is "He" who has all knowledge. Which fundamentally means that our understanding will only extend so far into ultimate questions unless we have the audacity to place ourselves in the place of God by claiming to know better then God. I don't have all the answers, however in a sense it may be fair to the human state (which includes joy, not just suffering) as backdrop of how we react and make choices. If that's seen as a test then, sure. We are the choosers, and the "children of choices". How we respond is a big part of how we experience it. I guess, that's how I look at it. How about u?

Of course we are speaking comparatively. I am sure a 1000 years from now, we will be perceived as living savagely. God bless.

Right, I mean don't many live an "animal" life by simply reducing life to the singular goal of least amount of pain as possible...and yet we obviously seek the transcendent. I imagine u and I are on the same page here.... As the saying goes "dog eat dog".

Well if you think about it, even if there is no God, the world wouldn't be much different than what it is now. Well.. actually.. in fact, if God did exist, the world isn't what God said it would be. Either way, it can only come down to faith. (I'm atheist)

1. It can't.
2. It can, but doesn't want to.
3. It doesn't really exist.
Pick one.

How do we even account for pestilence and famine, for earthquake and storm, for slavery, for the triumph of the strong over the weak, for the countless victories of injustice if a god existed eternally. If we admit that some infinite god is controlling the destinies of men, history becomes a most cruel & bloody farce.

It's enough to make one almost insane with pity to think what man in the long night has suffered; of the tortures he’s endured even at the watch of a merciful god! There's no truthful account of the innocent being shielded by god. God sat idly on his throne and allowed his enemies to wet their swords in the blood of his friends! God did not answer the prayers of the innocent, of the helpless and of the starving? When children were sold from the breasts of mothers, why was god deaf to the mother's cry? Why would even a mother has to clasp a deformed child in her breast if there's a god? Judging by these alone, a belief in a benevolent, loving, omniscient, omnipotent, and compassionate god could be overruled. But, the conundrum grows even deeper as we proceed.
