Can You Die from Crohn's Disease? what type of food are you suppose to eat?

My niece is 18 years old, she was diagnosed with Crohns Disease when she was 17. She is a Senior due to graduate this year. Medications have been very hard for her since she is so young and want to enjoy her last year in high school with her friends. Her parents are scared, I'm scared but mostly her. She wants to enjoy her last year without having to worry about anything. She hasn't even begun to live. How do we prepare her that she has to be very careful when all she wants to do is be a normal teenager. Any suggestions, please help. Thank You

My husband was diagnosed with Crohn's 8 years ago. He had to have surgery, they removed 12 inches of his intestines. This happened a year before we met. He tried taking medication for it, but decided to stop, because the side effects were worse than the actual disease. He controls his Crohn's, by eating healthy. There are certain foods that will tend to cause flare-ups, like dairy, fried foods, too much fiber. Keeping a food journal can help find those trigger foods, then you know what to eliminate that bothers you. Also, there is a small percentage of Crohn's patients who are allergic to wheat, and my husband found out he was one of them. There's no true test for that, other than eliminating wheat from your diet to see if you feel any different. We think the wheat was causing more severe symptoms than the Crohn's. Also, stress can cause flare-ups too. You can check out the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America online. There is even online chat and support from experts.

It is possible for one to die from the crohns disease. This can occur if the condition is left untreated and unmanaged due to the suppressed immune systems. Some of the foods that one is required to take include almond milk, eggs, oatmeal and vegetable soup.

Compounds in coconut have been found to have amazing results in in reducing or eliminating the debilitating issues related to Crone's
I have a young friend whom I suggested eating 2 coconut macaroons per day ( I know this sounds crazy)
and she is healthier than she has been in years.. Not to mention happy too
I would strongly urge the implementation of coconut into her diet
Good luck to both of you

had Crohn's for thirty yrs. symptoms vary from person to person. some have mild symptoms others more severe ones. but there are foods and things that all need to stay away from: bad( spicy food, carbonated yes that means soda, raw vegetables especially in a flare up, stress) 3 ways for flare up; stress, dehydration, eating foods not allowed. Crohn's disease can be managed .she can enjoy her life she just needs to aware of what is good for her and what is not. it will take time. PS don't let any surgeon tell her to have surgery. get the facts an make her own decision. she'll be just fine.

A friend my age (57) has had Crohns for years and she wasted down to a gaunt little figure, her intestines unable to absorb nutrients. However she persisted in trying to find foods and medications that worked for her. She has now put 12kg (26 pounds) back on and feels very positive

I have chron's. Recently diagnosed. I have flare ups only because I am still testing foods. I also had gastric bypass the malabsorption procedure 10 yrs ago so having no ins took a while to find correct diagnosis. I have lost 30 lbs in past 3 mths and just now leveling out since treating the disease. She will eat right once she goes through enough deathly flare ups.
