Greatest common factor of a polynomial?

I forgot my math textbook at school and I want to make sure I'm doing my homework correctly.

"Find the greatest common factor of the terms in the polynomial."

4x^4 + 12x^3, my answer = 4x

So am I supposed to find something that factors into each monomial? (4x^4 AND 12x^3 in this case)

Problem I'm on now: 10y^2 + 4y - 64

Your answer on the first one is wrong The GCF is the greatest factor that will divide into each term of the polynomial.
1) 4x^4 + 12x^3
GCF = 4x^3
2) 10y^2 + 4y - 64
GCF = 2
