Chinese new years ?

why does China have new years on a different day then Americans if we are all on the same globe ?

The year is continuous; there is no "natural" new year, some cultures start the year when the weather warms up in the spring, others start it with the harvest in the fall (look up Rosh Hashanah and Eid for two Middle Eastern new years). Western Europe chose the dead of winter, right after the winter solstice when the days start getting longer again. When the old year ends and a new one starts is totally arbitrary.
