What do you do when you feel like you're going through a dry valley in your Christian walk?

When your not receiving anything new from church, when you don't know where to read in your bible anymore, when the Christian music all sounds the same, your bored with the friends you have...
How do you get that joy again?

Get outside yourself. Find someone in worse need than you and do something for them. Not just donate money. Give of YOURSELF. Do volunteer work somewhere. Anywhere. Prove your own worth to humanity.

Excellent response! It would do us all good to follow your advice. There is something about giving to others that makes it all seem real again.

If you trust your pastor, have a talk. If you don't, then it is time to find a new church. Go church shopping. Interview the pastors.

Ask God, He is willing to give His joy to all who ask. Perhaps read Revelation, its a very exciting and interesting book. Be patient and persistent, it could be that He wants you to be still and just talk with Him.

When you find it hard to go on..Let Jesus carry you.

Remember, everything that happens to us in our lives, has happened to Jesus., Just keep your faith strong, taking one day at a time. In our lives, our system changes and our spirits become low. Again, know you are not alone and this too shall pass. Keep busy, volunteer in food shelters and animal shelters. You will get a sense of pure self worth and humility.

Never give up hope because your Maker has not .Only you can make the choice to be strong and look for the positive in life and in your friends. Try doing different things. Change is important..but always keeping God with you, as you move along. Prayer is powerful.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Go for walks and appreciate the birds and all that you have because there are so many people who have nothing but sickness in their lives.
We are blessed to have our Faith, family friends and appreciation for the gifts our Lord has given us. One day at a time God bless.

Most welcome..When I get those days, I talk to God and I feel better. HE knows what we are going through. Life is hard. We need to have gray matter in our lives..today, people are impatient and want solid answers, Only God can give them to us, not even the Bible since we all interpet the Bible differently..hence gray matter...I expect tho, when in heaven to hear from my Maker all about that which confused me but that which I respected . We must be like little children to enter heaven., God bless

First, talk to God. Every Christian goes through this at a certain time.

Second, do something for someone else. Just recently I was going through what you are now, and my church had a day where the youth group went to a crisis pregnancy center and helped them out. We scrubbed and painted the house, cleaned the porch, raked, etc. It felt so good, and it was definitely a "wake up call from Jesus." So basically, get out and do something for somebody in need that will help them. Does that help? :)

Stop playing at being a Christian. Discipleship means discipline. What spiritual discipline have you been engaged in? Prayer? Singing? Speaking? Helps?
I think dryness comes from letting water wash over us but not change us. If you want to find joy, give of yourself in a disciplined way. Get in the battle, as most soldiers in battle aren't bored, they are too busy staying alive.
Church is for many a place to play for two hours one day a week. But real Christianity is lived daily, 24/7, and involves a discipline. Set times to pray - and pray! Set goals for using your gifts - and meet them. Put wind in sails, rudder in water, and hold to your course.
Of course, this might be the Martha in me talking, and Mary's worship is next door. You will know what is best to do; your spirit will resonate.

Okay, I got to admit, that was a little hard to swallow, but there's truth to it. Thanks.

Well its not God who has pulled away from you so start looking at your life. Is God first in everything? Start praying, and i dont mean just formal prayer. Talk to God as youre driving or at work or shopping or where ever. Even if you dont feel like it at first. Ask God to show you what has come between you and Him. Be prepared not to like the answer tho.

I understand how you feel. The Bible tells us as 1 John 5:14, "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that, no matter what it is that we ask according to his will, he hears us." Jehovah will hear your heartfelt prayer, as long as it's according to his will. Try reading Psalm 141.

Hope I helped!

Hi Rainyday! When my husband and I started to come back to The Lord after many carnal years away, we decided to pray and ask Him to make us "hungry to know Him, and thirsty to read His Word", because we needed directions to get closer to Him. After that, I worked on a Beth Moore Bible Study on David, and it was so engrossing, that I would stay up late, reading and studying his life and relationship with God...The exercise of it all just transformed and advanced my Spiritual head and heart knowledge! So I will recommend that you read David's life. You have to start in Samuel1, where he was the Shephard boy who would slay Goliath, Read Samuel 2, and just a couple of chapters from Kings 1, those cover his Kingship. These books are short and exciting . There is adventure, loyal friendships, family drama, exciting battles, and lots of examples of God's consistent presence and favor in David's life. And you won't need a workbook, but it is fun to do the study too, because they teach the Psalms he wrote too! I wish you well, you did the right thing seeking the counsel of other believers. Bye!

Thank you so much Beth1, I use to love studying the word and would love enjoying it again, I just haven't had that hunger lately but I will read about David and see where it takes me.

This may be the time you need to self reflect on your own beliefs, your religion and what you are doing in your life. You may need some changes, but only you can figure out what those changes might be. Pray for guidance and god will show you. Take care.
