Can somebody please explain Punnett Squares?

I get how to use the tables, like T and t makes Tt, but I don't get how to set them up.

Make a square of four squares, then put the first letter of the fathers genome on top of the first little square, and the second letter of the fathers genome on to of the little square that is right next to the first one, the take the first letter of the mothers genome and put it on the left side of the first square that the fathers first letter is on top of, and put the second letter of her genome on the left side of the square right below the first letters square, then you put them together in the adjacent boxes, for example: if the father was XX and the mother is xx, then there is a 100% chance that the child will be Xx, because the father is half and the mother is half

if you have ever herd of the game battle ship, it like that but 2x2.
if it looks like this,
T|_|_|
t |_|_|
T t
the bottom right t has a row that goes up and the upper left T has a row that goes left and where they intersect is where you place Tt because you place the larger letter first

does that make sense?
