Every now and then the land will rise in one place and sink in another and a large chunk of the sea is cut off by the new contours. The sun evaporates the water, leaving a big area of salt behind. Wind and erosion covers over the salt and new shrubs and grasses grow, but that area will never be lush and green because it has such a high salt content below the surface.
