I think you may need to do the following:
1) Choose a best templet you can find: The picture should make us think of the environment of your topic at once. 2) Write a headline on the first page to tell your audience what you are going to talking about, and I think you can also let the "soul" of your lecture appear under the headline, animation can be used to attract attention. 3) Write Contents for your lecture and link the items to the corresponding pages behind. 4) Explain the contents items one by one, just make it clearly displayed in a concise manner. 5) A overall picture of your lecture 6) A thank you page.
There are blogs that can advice you to make effective PowerPoint presentations. Using good templates is a good idea but it may be difficult to find good free templates. However, the following websites may be helpful.
A second advice will be to use modern layouts. Forget the bullet points, you can use simple slides with centered content. For example, the following free PPT template contains different layouts that makes the job easier to add slides with a simple sentence in the center of the slide.
