How to explain the theory of Plate Tectonics?

First off, you have to start by explaining what the theory is all about: plate tectonics is a theory that the Earth's outer layer is made up of plates, which have been moving throughout the planet's history. The theory is explained in detail on csmres.jmu.edu/geollab/vageol/vahist/plates.html.

Get a plate of jello. Then find one of those old wooden kids puzzles. Put the pieces on the jello. Best demonstration I can think of off the top of my head.
