Do you talk with your hands? Why? Do you think you could stop if you tried? Are you bothered by people who do?

I guess I do because being Italian , that's what I grew up with . It doesn't bother me if other people do ! If you would have seen some of my Mom's relatives all together talking , you would thought they were talking sign language ! The gestures that my Mom would make at my Dad used to make us kids laugh . Everyone is different !

Every body talks with hands, heads, body. Some people much more then others. And yes sometimes it gets on my nerves. But I get on my own nerves sometimes....

My wife does more than I do, but she's Italian so I'll stereotype her. I do at times, like doing sign language, signaling my platoon, in the cockpit I have to signal the ground crew. Other times would be getting cut off in traffic, They can't really hear what I' saying, so while in mid-rant I use the universal friendship salute (the rigid digit)

When you wave "hi", you need to use all of your fingers....

Fritz, a guy called Richard Ianelli identified the fingers this way: we have a thumb, a pinkiie, an index finger, a ring finger, and a signal finger.
I liked your answer.

The rigid digit was an actual award given to some pilots during WWII

But did it refer to the finger?

Not much, but it happens because I'm trying to focus on the conversation, and keep calm and cool. :)
No I'm not bothered by people who do it.

That's not one question, it's four. And my answers are
1. Yes,
2. I dunno,
3. Probably not, and
4. No.

I'm such a chronic hand-talker that I even do it when I'm on the telephone. In fact, the only reason I'm not waving them around while answering this question is that I need them for the keyboard.

Watch a skilful orator addressing a crowd. The way they use their hands to get their ideas across is almost spell-binding.

You and me both!
Mr. Happy catches me talking to myself all the time. (The singing and dancing is for another day.) Sometimes my conversation is nonverbal. Do you know how lucky I am that he doesn't call for the padded-room-police?!?!
"There's a crazy woman gesturing in my kitchen!"

Sounds normal to me, Happy. Howard Keel did a great song about this in Kismet. They were going to cut off his hand (he'd been caught stealing) and he made a case for keeping it, the whole time using his hands to tell the story.

Normal...
That may be the first time that word has been applied to me.
