Help with Religious Crisis?

I'm having a religious crisis right now.
I do not agree with some Christian and Islamic stuff.
I believe there is one God.
I'm unsure of which religion to turn to, so I'm asking for some advice.
Please explain the religion, what it is, and the positives/negatives.

Report as

You don't have to join a religion.

How do you "become" an atheist?!
Report as
By giving up your religion. I
Report as
Klaus545
Hm? If you want to be an atheist, all you have to do is don't believe in a deity or religion.
Report as
Religions have to do with god/gods, thought atheist never believed in a god.
Report as
Klaus545
Ja'. They reject deities/gods/god and religious stuff.
Report as
Then you can't "become" atheist cause to "become" atheist, you've had to believe in god...right?
Report as
If a person has no beliefs in god/gods, they are atheist.
Report as
No, to become an atheist, you have to realize there is no god...

You don't have to have a religion. You can just be "Undecided" until things become clearer for you.

There is a lot of crud in the Koran
Report as
Like women don't have rights
Report as
Klaus545
Likewise with the Bible. The Quran has lovely moral codes (such as religious tolerance, something that helped them live peacefully with other religions and also something Christians don't strictly follow). I agree with lots of Islamic principles and I see it as inspiring.
Report as
Klaus545
Isn't that a rumor?
Report as
The people on the middle east probly know more about Islam than we do. And do women have rights?
Report as
And people that don't agree with them or americans aka "infidels" they have a tenancy to blow stuff up
Report as
Mohamed was a warrior
Report as
So the Koran leans that way

Complete bias?

I understand that feeling of confusion as I myself was in your situation. I was a Christian and came to islam a few years ago and never looked back. I never followed rumors I did research instead. My turning point was watching this DVD, Khalid yasin, our beginning our end. It is a 3 hour DVD and it was focussed for both Muslims and non Muslims. I think this may help you. My only other advice is dont listen to people, listen to your heart. I think you know what is right but your mind tells you different hence the confusion. If you have any questions about islam I will do my best to explain. Which ever way you go I hope you find peace in what ever you find. Salam.

@budthebearded hello :) I thought I might send you a few famous quotes from Muhammad SWT

God enjoins you to treat women well, for they are your mothers, daughters, aunts.

Power consists not in being able to strike another,
but in being able to control oneself when anger arises.

Women are the twin halves of men.

The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr

A Muslim must not hate his wife; and if he be displeased with one bad quality in her, then let him be pleased with another that is good.

Feed the hungry and visit a sick person, and free the captive, if he be unjustly confined. Assist any person oppressed, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.

The most excellent Jihad is that for the conquest of self.

Act kindly towards women, for they were created from a rib and the most crooked part of the rib is its top. If you attempt to straighten it you will break it, if you leave it alone it will remain crooked: so act kindly towards women.

I know this may not answer all your questions but these are some of the things Muhammad swt wrote 1500 years ago. Some of the way Muslims may act can be also cultural based not necessarily Islamic.

Also here is a link as well that may help. This is off wikipedia. I have no rights to this link and no copyright intended.

Religion is from the inside, not the outside. Organized religion isn't for everybody. If you believe in a god, he/she/it believes in you. If you don't believe in a god, he/she/it doesn't mind.
Pick a saying and run with it.

I believe in God but I do not belong to a church. I find most organized religions to be a bit hypocritical. I feel many want to pick and chose who to love when the bible clearly says to love everyone.

If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

You might be a Deist. Deists believe that there is a nebulous higher power-type deity, but not a personal, anthropomorphic creator deity like the Abrahamic god.
Deists believe that this higher power created the universe but then did not and does not intervene after that.

Many of our founding fathers in the US were Deists, like Benjamin Franklin.

If you want to know Christ you will have to accept by faith. That will get you into heaven which is our greatest reward. .............

But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him...... Hebrews 11

I tell people here what I did a long time ago- I found answers to my religious questions by studying the bible. Go to www.jw.org for the same. It made perfect sense to me, because no one seemed to be able to answer my questions. I didn't want to be told, "It's a ritual", or "Nobody knows". Best wishes.

Religion is dead. There is only one truth. Christianity isn't a religion, it's a relationship with the one only God who created all things. Christianity can only be found though giving your life to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

I say pray to The One God that you believe exists and ask for a hunger to know Him and a thirst to read His Word. Seek Spiritual Wisdom and Spiritual Decernment. Read the Holy Book(s) for yourself and find good teacher(s). Avoid religion. That is man-made rituals and the traditions of mere men. When you invite Him into your life, God comes in, and He will communicate to you from within what you should do and when you should do it. I am speaking from a place of experience with God. The most important thing that you'll ever do in this life will be finding your peace with God. You are asking all the right questions to set yourself up for success, I wish you the best, bye!

also the main difference between Christianity and islam is that christianity believes Jesus is the son of god and that he will forgive all sins. islam beleives there is one god only (no trinity) and that god will forgive us directly. god is forgiving and merciful. that's just the very basic explanation without being too detailed.
