Why do we have censorship laws? Kids are going to be exposed to the stuff being censored eventually, so there's really no point.

cartoons used to show stuff that's not allowed today and it doesn't seem to have had any ill effects, so why censor stuff? by "stuff" I mean nudity and cursing, not sex.

Better safe than sorry. It is true they will most likely see 'things' sooner or later, but no need to have them seeing 'things' at too young of an age.

But is it really that big a deal if they see someone naked on TV? It's not like they won't eventually see it later in life.

True...True.

I can understand why they'd censor sex, but nudity and cursing just doesn't seem like a big deal.

i agree, most of the offense things i dont see or hear on tv but in stores or public areas. the best thing is to be honest with your children and explain to them what things means so they arent confused later in life.

For little kid's sake and parent's disagreements with the companies.

But they wouldn't know what was going on, so it wouldn't matter.

And by stuff, I meant nudity and cursing, not sex.

Why would cartoons be censored in the first place? Lol - and yes, true... but so it won't create a sinkhole of crap in their mind. Lol.
Report as
But still, they'll eventually see naked people of the opposite gender and hear cursing all the time, so it's really just a futile gesture.

We don't have censorship laws. Some things are for adults, not children.

We do have censorship laws, it's called the FCC.

This is why children don't make those decisions.

I'm just asking why we censor nudity and cursing. It's not that big a deal if kids see that kind of stuff.

But a kid won't act any less like a kid if they see someone naked on TV.

They probably don't want kids at young ages to know that kind of "stuff"..

When I say stuff, I don't mean sex. Just nudity and cursing.

I can understand why they'd censor sex, it's just that nudity doesn't seem like such a big deal.

Are you getting mad?
Report as
No. I'm just saying that it seems kinda pointless to censor nudity and cursing.

Ever heard the expression 'There's nobody stupider than people'?

I as a parent, appreciate censorship so I can somewhat control what my children see. It's tough enough trying to protect young eyes from viewing or hearing extremely inappropriate stuff. Censorship helps enormously.

.. and I lived through decades of being subject to shows like "Bugs Bunny" and "The Lone Ranger" where shooting and killing were no big deal, and turned out to be at least for the most part a well adjusted individual.

Nowdays .. it's worse .. FAR worse for young kids to be subject to such grossly desensitizing media..It scares the B'jesus outta me.

Funny but .. there seems to be a correlation of how society connects to violence.. Back 'in the day' .. you never heard of school massacres .. yet now days .. it's disturbingly commonplace. Why do you think that is?

It's because of mental issues, but nudity and cursing on tv don't cause kids to do bad things, so why censor it?
Report as
I do understand why sex is censored, but not everything else.

Because the majority of the people want them. OR because the government THINKS the majority of people want them. If the population rose as one, so to speak, and said, "We don't want anything censored!!" then we wouldn't have censorship laws. In a democracy, the people choose, or the government assumes the people choose. If the people don't actively vote otherwise, the laws stand.

Ok. It just seems like a futile gesture to censor nudity and cursing when kids will eventually be exposed to it anyway.
Report as
Well, at too young an age they don't understand what is or isn't going on and can be frightened or confused, even if you try to explain it. At an older age, you can give them whatever explanation you want them to have, and they can take it in.
It's like if a three year old asks, "What make car go, daddy?" You can explain how an internal combustion engine works, but they won't get it.
Report as
Well I don't mean that there's no point in censoring sex, just nudity and cursing.

They are now a kid calls another kid fat and they get yelled at for "hurting their feelings"... Because of that the fat kid has no drive to lose weight, it is ruining America.... And now if a kid draws a pistol on a piece of paper he gets suspended. Now when something is socially unacceptable people cannot point it out because it might "hurt their feelings" and then they grow up to be wimpy...
