I've seen too many people holding on to the past when they should be letting go. The past is just that - the past. It can't be changed or improved but by holding on, it can affect the present. People who hold grudges for years can't drop the baggage they're carrying and move on. People with PTSD are constantly consumed with their past and destroying their current lives and relationships in the process. History can't be changed and you may not be able to forget but you can put the past in the proper perspective, learn from your lessons but move on and live for today. You can change the outcome of today but not yesterday.
Move on because the only person that is being affected by you dwelling on the past is you! You will hurt your peace of mind and possibly your health while the other person hasn't thought anymore about it and having a good time.
WOW, you have a lot of answers. I admire your answers here at Ask, so here is my answer. One can Never forget the past. I remember most everything that has ever happened to me all my life so far. I am 71 yrs old. But, one can learn to live with it. Don't dwell on any one thing all the time; it will over power us. Move on, find some new challenges cause there are many. Look at the good side of life, don't keep looking back all the time, and you will find life is good. Good luck.
Depends on what you are talking about! For example as far as World History is concerned, " those who forget history, are destined to repeat it"! That is why we are are currently experiencing such hard times in The USA right now. People forgot that socialism did not work in the former USSR and are trying to make it work in the USA now. People forgot how immorality was such a big part of the fall of Rome and yet they are Trying to get the USA to accept immoral behavior today!
iv go both, i try to remember the past and thinkin how lucky i'm still alive from the operation of my brain, but mum would like me to remember the past to see how i achieve it, i used to stay in a wheelchair and stay in a 1 full year in hospital but i learn and practice again and again to get better and showin mum that im not stayin , so the past u can remember is what you achieve it
To let go but never forget. Because even your failures are experiences to learn from. Without them, you will go insane. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein
Hold on to the good memories from the past and let go of the bad, but learn from all of it. If you let something in the past consume you, you can't enjoy the good things that are happening now. Like that little baby that's on the way!!!!!!!!!! ;o)
Your past is your personal history, I don't think it should be forgotten. Just don't let your past rule over your future...I mean, don't continue to stumble over things that have come and gone. After all, you can't effectively move forwards while constantly looking back. :)
The Bible give some constructive advice in respects to holding on to things of the past at Philippians 3:13 - Brothers, I do not yet consider myself as having laid hold on [it]; but there is one thing about it: Forgetting the things behind and stretching forward to the things ahead.
We are advised to forget the things of the past ; wasting time and energy and being overly concerned about the past serve no purpose. It paralyzes us to those things of the past which prevent one from moving forward. So, we do learn from the past but we must also let it go in order to move forward and also to be "healthy mentally, emotionally and physically.
man, life is so mysterious, you dont want to forget the amazing parts from it, but then those bad memories come back and you try everything to stop thinking about it when you do you feel bad because you miss it deep inside you. I think you should forget the bad memories but always know that you can make new ones and better ones
