Do you think ground beef is tasteless & rubbery these days?

Ground beef patties at my store were moist and tender and flavorful about 5 months ago.
After that, they seemed to taste and smell like nothing, and after they were cooked they had the texture of like hard rubber, no matter how gentle you cooked them.
I think there must be a bunch of "pasty-like fillers" in the ground beef now which makes them horrible. What do you think about this?

Don't need vegetarians to tell me stop eating meat, that isn't what this question is about.

Don't buy the pre-made patties, they're horrible! I hand pressed some little lovelies the other night that were just fantastic!...

You could be right. Buying the patties already pressed and shaped is probably a bad idea. The patties look like sculpted paste, not ground beef.
But I still believe they are now putting in fillers that make those patties smell and taste horrible.

I hear ya. I actually stopped buying ground beef and beef patties because of how my grocery store's ground-beef changed so badly.

aww...try to report it XD

I wouldn't know how to do that.
Guess I'll just have to go to a restaurant that has real, tender beef, and the burgers still taste tender, juicy and flavorful.

well good luck with that :/

I stopped eating ground beef once I could get ground buffalo year-round.

You may check to see what the fat % is ... sounds like you went from a higher fat content, to a lower/leaner one.

No, fat content stayed the same. Seems they added 'pasty fillers' into the beef. Maybe it's just not many people realize it yet. Don't know.

Or it's just the brand you get.

I always get meat directly from a packer, or the butcher shop.

Only have the choice that store has out on display. And in the past 5-6 months it has sucked.
Ever hear of "Pink Slime Filler" put into ground beef lately? Maybe that is why the beef patties and ground beef are terrible here these days.
It's something, just don't what it is yet.

You mean McDonald's? It's mystery meat!
I would go to another store. Yes, the ground beef, 75-25, ground chuck 80-20, and the 93-7 where I get hamburger is still good, and still tastes like hamburger should. They might be adding some soybean meal or other.

No, not McDonalds.

Or... they are adding a 'Pasty Pork filling' into the beef. Either way, it cooks-up like rubber and does not smell good or taste good, and I have been cooking beef patties for 25 years.

My mom cooks ground beef herself and I guess makes it so it is not that way. Rubbery? sound interesting.

Yep, ground beef patties bought from my Grocery Store now cook-up to a rubbery/rough texture, and have no flavor or smell.

Depends on where you get it. My mom used to get it at the grocery store, but she gets it ONLY from a meat market now. The meat market meat is much fresher tasting and has way more taste and flavor.

I should "definitely" try that.
Now if I can find a meat market or butcher close to here, not sure though.
Thank You for your answer :]
