What wars were fought over oil or that involved oil?

Report as

Kuwait was actually stealing oil from Iraq by drilling where Iraq had rights. Saddam's ambassador told ours that iraq might have to take military action. Saddam was put into power by the US and we were not happy with him so our Ambassador was instructed to imply the US did not object to Iraq protecting their oil rights. i think the phrase used was we had "no position" So Iraq invaded Kuwait, and Mr. Bush jumped on that as an excuse for the Gulf War. U can look this up in articles that were in the NY Times months before that war. A big part of the reason Cheney wanted war was for oil but its broader than that. It's about rich men making other rich men even richer by supporting the industrial war complex. Basically protecting corporate profits. GW was in my opinion motivated by that but also he thought god wAnted him to do it too, so he killed all those people and our soldiers by lying about weapons that Saddam did not have, and the non existent threat. The CIA emphatically told him he did not have those wmd

I should add that when The US started the Iraq war (and got other countries to join us by insisting Saddam had Weapons of Mass destruction) our soldiers were told to protect the oil fields from Saddam destroying them. They were not given orders to protect museums full of priceless art, or hospitals etc. the first and most important was the oil fields.

The First Gulf War, well no really over oil, but to liberate an oil producing country (Kuwait) and prevent Iraq from invading another oil producing country (Saudi Arabia). Had we no prevented this the price of oil would've been beyond the reach of average consumers and the economy would grind to a halt.
