Serious answers only. What is the best way to seek help for a non substance abuse addiction? Where should I start?

I've been struggling my whole life with different forms of addictions from ocd related ones to cutting to picking. I want to seek a christian based service so I can stop and be healthier for NY family.

Well first, you must treat the underlying symptom of deeper emotional depression, or imbalance that resulted from something in your life. Have you ever had a traumatic experience, or perhaps have a personal demon you have failed to deal with? If you can rid yourself of the influence in your life that evil has upon you, getting rid of such addictions becomes a game of attrition. So start there, look at your current and past problems, and resolve them as best as possible, see if you get any improvement from there. If you don't get improvement from that, the absolute best advice i can reccomend, is that you schedule a meeting with a priest, and seek pastoral counceling. which may allow you a better outlook on these problems that you wish to solve. Finally, pray for the Blessed Mother's intercession on your behalf. As the saying goes, Mother knows best, and Mother Mary can be a great help to anyone in need, because she intercedes on our behalf with God.

well I have had lots of traumatic incidents its hard to pin point what is the reason for this being so hard to figure out

Ah, well, consider all of them, and look at what is still bugging you. If you can get rid of some of them, it should help.

can't just toss out trauma. they are emotional scars that's why I'm trying to seek help

You can toss it out if you deal with it. You have to clean the skeletons up before they can be removed from the closet. As i said, you should try talking to someone about them, and most definitly seek pastoral guidance.

Have you asked your preacher? I know it can be embarrassing, but if they are of deep faith, they'll want to help. If you submit your addiction to Christ, it's important that you submit the WHOLE addiction to him - shame and all. :)

I hope this helps.

that's the only reason I haven't. I thought about bringing it up at my women's group

If you regard your addiction as sin when confessed to Christ, you withhold the remorse/regret/shame... Then you aren't really receiving His gift of forgiveness of sin. You're telling him, "I trust you with (most) of my issue - -but not all of it."
