I could swear my blue diamond glows in the dark, is this even possible?

It glows kind of red in the dark (just for a little bit) for about a minute or so...

Haven't you read about phosphorescence and fluorescence?

All I remember is related to my junior year of high school. Our teacher said, " that both are qualities of some materials, that one just reflects the light and the other kind of saves it and continues to reflect the light a short while after the light has been shut". But I don't remember which word is designated for which quality.

You certainly can find something about them on the Web.

Ha! I just cast a glance on fluorescence definition and it said that it changes the wavelength. So the other one doesn't. And I think both glow in the dark

What is occurring is called 'red phosphorescence' and is a unique quality of blue diamonds. Gemologist now use this to fingerprint natural blue diamonds. Your diamond is absorbing UV rays which gives it the red glow for a minute or two. Now that you have discovered that your diamond glows, you can take solace in the fact that it is a natural blue diamond and not treated.
